How is the placement of an MTech (EE) at IIT Kharagpur?
No IIT has department-specific placements and usually open to all placements are done wherein companies allow students from different branches to sit for placements. There are only a handful of core companies that discriminate between students of their branch and other branches not letting them sit for placements.
So MTech placements usually mean competing with a number of students from different branches for top companies like GE, Bosch, or Texas Instruments. Most visiting companies are software companies that allow students from most branches to participate.
Can I change a B.Arch branch to any B.Tech branch in IIT Kharagpur?
Many people go for a certain branch with much surety bog branch change but don’t consider the consequences. It’s highly possible that you may not be able to change your branch and end up with a branch that you did not want to pursue in the first place. These people choose EE at IIT Bombay or Kharagpur when they could have easily taken IIT Hyderabad CSE.
One should not solely rely on branch change and think of the consequences of not being able to change the branch. Will you be able to survive in the branch you chose initially?
I don’t have much idea about IIT KGP’s branch change but I feel it is somewhat similar to IIT Roorkee which I do have an idea about. A Bachelor of Architecture course cannot change their branch to BTech if that’s what you are asking since both are extremely different streams. This concept of branch change misguides many so should be opted for when necessary. I have even heard of changes from BS to BTech.
Is it necessary to take a laptop to IIT Kharagpur?
No, it’s not necessary at all to bring a laptop for studies at IIT KGP. While it is true that most professors use PPTs and PDFs to teach, you can always access them on your mobile phone. Some subjects might require programs like PDS, and you can go to the digital library and use computers.
A laptop might help you a bit but not having one will definitely not affect your scores or academic performance. In fact, a laptop might even become a source of distraction and might involve you in gaming.
So rest assured and enjoy IIT KGP campus life rather than spending your time in front of the laptop screen.
Which is better for EE, IIT Roorkee or IIT KGP?
Both IIT Roorkee and IIT Kharagpur are well-renowned institutions for electrical engineering studies. It all depends on personal preferences and priorities. Some students may prefer the academic focus of IIT Roorkee, while others may prefer the research opportunities at IIT Kharagpur. Both institutes have equally good labs and research facilities. However, IIT KGP being the oldest has a slight advantage over IIT Roorkee.

Is IIIT Hyderabad CSE as good as IIT Kharagpur CSE?
CSE department of both IIT Kharagpur and IIT Hyderabad is top notch offering the best coursework and coding culture.
But here’s the thing about CSE, it consists only of coding. In case you later find out that you are not really interested in it, joining IIT Hyderabad might prove to be a wrong decision. On the other hand, IIT KGP has many branches to choose from and also has noncore companies for Finance companies visiting the campus. One can pursue their area of interest and does not have to stick to the branch he chose.
Another reason why people prefer IIT Kharagpur over IIT Hyderabad is the better peer group in terms of JEE Rank. This is because IIT KGP has a cutoff lower than IITH thus inviting only the best.
Thus, IIT KGP has a slight advantage over IITH as far as alumni network, peer quality, and variety of branches are concerned. IITH is a good option only if you are confident that you are interested in nothing but coding. Else IIT Kharagpur is always the better choice.
How is placement scenario and future prospects of MTech. in Control systems engineering from IIT Kharagpur?
IIT Kharagpur has recently wrapped its Phase 1 placement for the batch 2023. More than 1600 offers and 900 Internship offers were made to the students with 45 International Offers. The Highest Package stood at INR 2.68 CPA at the end of Day 5.

There is a Quality Engineering Design and Manufacturing or QEDM program offered at IIT Kharagpur. Some highlights of the course are

Although Kanpur, Bombay, and Kharagpur three are excellent Engineering institutes, it's IIT Kharagpur that steals the show with NIRF ranking of 5.
The director of IIT Kharagpur itself is the ex-HOD of the CS department and thus cares much about the department. Most of my friends and seniors from the CS department are in awe of the experience they had in their branch at IIT KGP.
As far as the other branches are concerned, IIT KGP provides a versatile list of relevant courses such as Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering that have excellent placement statistics and high cutoffs.
Even the integrated MSc in Economics has gained much popularity among IITians. The Mining department of IIT Kharagpur ranks 37th whereas other departments to have decent ranks globally.
What are some great subjects to opt as additional subjects in IIT Kharagpur?
Selecting the right additional subject for you depends on your interests and career goals. It is advisable to speak to an academic advisor at IIT Kharagpur to determine which additional subject would be the best fit for you. You can also seek the course structure of the respective engineering stream on the official website of IIT KGP. Analyze the course that intrigues you the most and check their availability and plan accordingly. At IT Kharagpur, some popular additional subjects especially for CSE are as follows include

Which laptop is required for an IIT Kharagpur mechanical dual degree student?
Every Mechanical Engineering student requires high-speed, smooth, and multipurpose laptops to tackle the complications in the course. Your laptop should be efficient enough to do high-speed work and fulfill all requirements since a major part of your study is based on PDFs and online assignments. You require systems that can handle heavy project loads in programs designed for 3D environments and video rendering.
- Processor: Applications required are basically CPU exhaustive. They have to load huge databases to set up the workstation, and a light processor will make you wait a lot. More precisely, the best choice is i5-6300HQ/i7-6500U. If you are looking for a high-end CPU, go for 7-6700HQ or even i7-6820HK.
- RAM: A high-end processor is useless unless the memory is not sufficient. A high RAM is needed to perform everyday tasks, and if your memory is low, your processor won’t perform as well as it could. A minimum of 8 GB RAM is recommended and the most ideal is 16 GB.
- GPU: Operating heavy programs require excellent speed and resolution. Especially programs like MATLAB and CAD are used for 3D environments and video rendering, and a normal laptop will not be sufficient. Thus you should be choosing from Nvidia GTX 960M, 1050, and 1050 ti.
- Storage: The ideal storage I would recommend should be around 1Tb hdd. SSD is another option but not budget-friendly.
While one can compromise on storage, a Mechanical Engineer’s laptop is expected to have excellent memory, CPU, and graphics that will run heavy programs smoothly.
