What should I choose, Electrical in IIT Mandi or Textile in IIT Delhi?
If you ask me which one to choose I would say choosing Textile from IIT Delhi is a better option than opting for Electrical in IIT Mandi.
- IIT Delhi is known for its excellent academic standards and research opportunities that it offers to students.
- IIT Delhi offers 4 years full-time undergraduate program for Textile Engineering, the average course fee is around INR 10-8 lakhs.
- IIT provides good placement opportunities for the students with about 90% of the students being placed.
- The highest package is INR 60 LPA and the average package is between INR 15- 20 LPA.
What is the CGPA required for changing branch (textile to any other) in IIT Delhi?
A UG student at IIT Delhi is eligible for branch change only at the end of the first year subject to the following criteria
- CGPA for General and OBC category: >8.00
- CGPA for SC/ST and PwD category: >7.00
- The student must have earned credits /non-graded units at the end of the second semester of the first year.
- Additionally, the student should have no disciplinary action against him/her.
- The change of branch is done solely on merit under the condition that the batch size of the branch to which the transfer is to be made should not exceed its permitted limit by more than 15% and the batch size of the branch from which the transfer is being made does not fall below 85% of its permitted limit.
- In case of a tie of CGPA between the students applying for branch change, the JEE Ranks of the students will be given due consideration.

What is your opinion of the IIT Delhi maths and computing?
The maths and Computing program offered at IIT Delhi has a higher level of Mathematical concepts and fewer CS concepts. Many take the program under the pretext of attracting CS placements but the curriculum has more mathematical concepts.
Coursework: The coursework is very intriguing for those who are genuinely interested in the program but might seem difficult and boring for some. Moreover, maintaining a high SGPA in this course is really challenging and almost impossible.
Extracurricular: The rigorous curriculum leaves no space for extracurriculars and your schedule is always packed with some or other activities. The holidays and leisure available are less in comparison to other courses.
Placements: The course offered by the MnC Department of IIT Delhi has an excellent placement scenario and you will not be disappointed with the packages offered.
Overall, the program has a lot to offer in terms of curriculum and placements so is a good choice.
What is the difference between the top 3 colleges of Delhi - DTU, NSIT and IIT Delhi?
I am a third year B.Tech student at IIT Delhi.

- Average Placements: IIT Delhi has better placements than the other two institutions.
- Brand Recognition: IIT Delhi has a very strong brand value, and it is globally recognized. On the other hand, DTU and NSUT are highly reputed in North India, but they do not have global recognition.

Should I take up math and computing at IIT Delhi, or B.Math at ISI Bengaluru?
Whether you should opt for MnC at IIT Delhi or B.Math at ISI Bangalore depends on what you want from your graduation and your career prospects.
Academically both institutes are excellent and none is better than the other. So my answer entails the drastic difference in the curriculum and scope of the two programs.
Bachelor of Mathematics, ISI Bengaluru
This program has high-tech mathematical stuff and purely focuses on Mathematics. The Institute is smaller than IIT Delhi and ideal for those who have a single passion in life, Maths. The coursework consists of abstract algebra, analysis, probability theory, and so on. Additionally, it has compulsory courses in Statistics, Probability, and Physics as well. Although it offers some CS courses also, the program does not focus on Computer Science much.
Math and Computing (MnC), IIT Delhi
The curriculum of the MnC program is more inclined toward computer science than Mathematics. The program focuses more on applied mathematics, rather than pure mathematics. As a result, graduates from this course can start jobs earlier than those from ISI.
In a nutshell, if you are willing to go for higher education and research in mathematics, then ISI should be your goal. If you are a person interested in the practical application of concepts and want to eventually be employed in a company, then IIT Delhi is the best place for you.
How is the faculty at the IIT Delhi compared to that of the IIT Bombay?
I have friends in both institutes and from what I have heard, the IIIT Delhi faculty is quite arrogant and has no interest in teaching. The professors at IIT Delhi were very approachable during internships and expressed their willingness to work with the students and help them find their thought processes. On the other hand, IIIT Delhi professors would mock you if you were unable to answer a particular question.
A friend shared an incident at IIT Delhi when one of the professors committed an unintentional mistake and retook his interview to apologize. Your Ph.D. depends a lot on the kind of professors you work under and I will never recommend you to do a Ph.D. under such arrogant professors

Why has IIT Delhi made its PhD admissions so hard?
IIT Delhi Ph.D eligibility criteria are as follows:
- Passed M.Tech/M.E/M.Sc/MBA degree with minimum 60% marks
- Or, B.E/B.Tech with a minimum of 70% marks in the concerned discipline.
- Must qualify for GATE/ CSIR/ UGC NET/ ICAR/ DST INSPIRE fellowship
The admission has been made challenging to shortlist minimal candidates that rightly qualify for the degree instead of shortlisting many. Although we can say that CGPA alone should not be the only criterion, maybe they might already be getting enough applications that can be filtered out using criteria like CGPA.
Now, Stanford’s Ph.D. eligibility criteria is a TOEFL cut-off of 113/120 for MS in CSE. One might think that the TOEFL is an irrelevant criterion for a Ph.D. but it is necessary as you will have to read and write papers in grad school.
