What is the reputation of the IIIT Allahabad outside of India?

PR
Priti Roy Posted On : March 22nd, 2021
Studied Electronics and Communication Engineering at Indian Institute of Information Technology, Allahabad (2019)

This is a really nice question to ask. IITs only focus on developing good engineers, it does not focus on the mindset of people.

For a moment, let us forget about the packages and only focus on popularity. The popularity of an institute depends on how old it is because this impacts the alumni network, its history, and oral communication which contributes to publicity.

  • When asked for advice, many people talk about IITs and NITs because they have been functioning for so many years now and more importantly, were at their best.
  • If you ask a current engineering student for advice, you will get better suggestions. There are 25 IIITs in India and not all are famous. But, IIIT Allahabad and IIIT Hyderabad are at their best and par with IITs in terms of academic standards.
  • Factors such as academic curriculum, infrastructure, faculty, culture, placements, etc, should be the factors to be considered rather than how many might have heard of it or how popular the institution is.
  • The course curriculum is something that IIIT Allahabad should proudly brag of.
  • It offers a great coding environment and is way better than MNNIT Allahabad. Also, IIIT Allahabad is ranked number in SPOJ Rankings.

In the coming years, IIIT Allahabad will surely be among the top popular institutions in India. IIITS are central government-funded institutes that specialize in Information Technology, which the IITs do not provide.

Harsha Suryanarayana, one of India’s first Red Coders, was from IIIT Allahabad and every IT person must have heard of him. He also represented IIIT Allahabad in the ACM ICPC World Finals. When it comes to regional rounds, many teams from the institutions win in comparison to teams one or two teams from MNNIT.

Talking about rankings and placements, IIIT Allahabad is above about 25 NITs and many new IITs.

Is IIIT Allahabad good for the course of integrated robotics?

SG
Sarita Gupta Posted On : July 17th, 2021
Studied at IIIT Allahabad (2019)

I would say that it is not suitable for those who wish to pursue a career in research. Also, if you are hoping for good placements in any robotics company you will be disappointed. But first, weigh the benefits and drawbacks.

Pros and Cons:

  • You will complete two degrees in five years. But you do not need two degrees to get a good job; a B.Tech course is far superior in this case.
  • You will have a lot of time to concentrate on the work you want to do.
  • You will have the opportunity to study both B.Tech and M.Tech.
  • Some companies frequently provide more benefits to M.Tech students. But some will not allow you to sit because they do not accept M.Tech students.
  • You will only be paid for a period of ten months. M.Tech students, on the other hand, are paid for 22 months, whereas B.Tech students are paid for the internships they obtain in their final semesters.
  • Because of thesis work, M.Tech students are not permitted to participate in any internships during their final year.
  • To be successful in robotics, you must be skilled in mechanical, electrical, electronics, and software. Fortunately, the faculty here will be able to guide you in these areas.

Now consider the following factors that make it superior to the standard course:

  1. Robotics Faculty: Faculty is really nice here. They are very friendly, cooperative and will guide you in a good direction.
  2. Robotics Lab: Once again, one of the best and most prestigious laboratories is at IIIT-A.
  3. Nowadays, the majority of students are primarily engaged in simulation and algorithmic projects. As an IT institute, the majority of the topics are confined to algorithms and the software component.
  4. On the one hand, B.Tech IT strengthens our coding skills, while M.Tech specialization strengthens our mechanical and electronics sides. That is, a robotics student is a developer, coder, electronics master, and dynamics.
  5. Job Security: You have the same job opportunities as any other IT student and can even apply for a position as a professor in any private college. They will pay you more than private businesses.

This institute is the only one of its kind to offer an IT robotics specialization. That means your coding skills will undoubtedly come in handy. Other colleges place a greater emphasis on mechanical and physical aspects. So, if you're an IT enthusiast who enjoys coding robots, this is the institute for you.

What should be my AIR in JEE Mains to get a B.Tech in IT at IIIT Allahabad?

Pranjal Singhal Posted On : March 11th, 2021

It has been ranked among top 100 best engineering colleges in India by NIRF, 2020. So clearly getting into IIIT-A will be quite difficult. The latest statistics show that you must be ranked below 5K in IIT-JEE Main in order to get into B.Tech in IT if you fall under OBC category. This margin falls down to 400 if you belong to the general category.

Detailed category wise closing ranks of previous year for B.Tech IT is given in the table below:

Category

Closing rank

General (female only)

7549

General (gender neutral)

4735

General PwD

351

OBC-NCL (female only)

4864

OBC-NCL (gender neutral)

2361

OBC-NCL (PWD)

632

SC (Female only)

3209

SC (gender neutral)

1585

ST (female only)

1816

ST (gender neutral)

1199

Looking at the general trends of the cut-off list of previous year, it is safer to score above 96-98% in your boards and fall under top 500 students in JEE Main.

Why are good institutes like IIIT-Hyderabad, IIIT-Allahabad, BITS-Pilani, NSIT and DTU missing in MHRD Rankings for best engineering institutes?

AB
Akriti Banerjee Posted On : August 2nd, 2023
lives in New Delhi

The first-ever ranking of higher education institutions in India namely the Engineering, Management, Pharmacy, and Universities was released on the 4th of April 2016, by the MHRD. Many claimed that the report was misleading as they did not conduct thorough research before ranking the institutes.

Firstly, only 233 out of 720 universities participated and it's highly possible that some of the major colleges did not participate in the survey. So to get an exact picture, 100% participation is a must. One of my friends told me that his institute was a tier-3 institute with pathetic teaching faculty and placements and yet was ranked under 70. This alone is enough to point out that fallacy in the rankings. He also told me that most of the duvet conducted was done with false credentials, therefore, discrediting the rankings.
The worst part of these MHRD rankings is that the accuracy and authenticity are in the hands of the institute which can be easily manipulated. Overall I believe that The National Institutional Ranking Framework is a good idea, but poorly executed because the rankings are done on the basis of incomplete data and are often manipulated. Unfortunately, many students fall trapped in these inflated rankings and end up h choosing the wrong institute.

Which has the best IT and the highest package for placements: IIIT Allahabad or Motilal Nehru NIT (MNNIT) Allahabad? What is the average package of each till 2015 placements?

ST
Sanjana Tripathi Posted On : November 28th, 2023
Lives in Allahabad

Here are a few parameters to compare B.Tech IT at both these colleges-

  • Faculty- The professors of IT at both the colleges are highly renowned, and always ready to help their students.
  • Infrastructure- IIIT Allahabad is new, so it has better infrastructure. But MNNIT has state-of-the-art labs and facilities. Some of these facilities are- CIR (Center for Interdisciplinary Research), Design Centre, STPI (s/w Technology park of India), etc.
  • Campus and Hostel Life- MNNIT has a much better campus and hostel life.
  • Alumni- The alumni of MNNIT Allahabad are present in every part of the globe. Being a much older institute, it has a higher number of notable alumni in reputed positions around the world.
  • Coding Culture- IIIT Allahabad has a better coding culture, and this has been proven by the performance of its students in ACM-ICPC, GSOC, etc. MNNIT certainly does not lag far behind, thanks to the computer club classes by final year students.
  • Curriculum- The curriculum of IIITA is centered around Computer Science, right from the first year itself. MNNIT delivers few programming courses in the first year, but the syllabus mainly begins from second year onwards.
  • Placements- Amazon, Flipkart ,eBay, Snapdeal, Cisco, Citrix, LinkedIn, Visa, etc. visit the IT department of MNNIT Allahabad. In 2023, the average package for B.Tech IT was 24.43 LPA at MNNIT (the highest CTC was 82.63 LPA).

The placement stats for IIITA are better, mainly because of lesser intake. During 2023, the average package for B.Tech IT at IIITA was 34.66 LPA (and the highest CTC was INR 82.50 LPA). Google, Code Nation, etc. visit the department with job offers.

To conclude, both are excellent for B.Tech IT and you can opt for either of them.

Is the new BH5 in IIIT Allahabad really better in terms mess and other places?

SG
Supriya Ghose Posted On : April 16th, 2021
BTech from IIIT Allahabad

My cousin joined IIIT Allahabad in 2018 and the boy’s hostel has been an average experience for him. He has double sharing spaces at BH5 and the basic furniture and equipment setup like chairs, tables, internet, 2 cupboards, fans, etc are already available. There is no AC, coolers are allowed but BH5 doesn't have any balcony too.

Below are some factors about the hostel that you may like to know.

Mess:

  • The mess at BH5 is spacious and serves better food as compared to messes at other boys’ hostels. It offers a vast variety of cuisine, however, the taste is average and sometimes quite bad.
  • For breakfast, you'd get Bread-Butter or Jam, Egg/ or Fruit and Milk, and a main dish based on the menu of the day.
  • Dinner is given with a sweet dish each night and non-veg is available once a week on Sunday.
  • The canteen is another option if you do not prefer the food from the mess. The night canteen is open late at night and has the basic veg and nonveg snacks available for munching like chips, cold drinks, coffee, etc. along with popular Indian dishes as well. You can order food from outside too.
  • There is an air conditioning facility available at other hostels but here, it has not been and there are plans being made to install it soon.

The mess menu is decided by the committee and you get to eat whatever is available for the day- good or bad.

Internet:

  • As for the internet, it is available now but wasn't when my cousin took admission, because the hostel was recently built and LAN wasn't available.
  • You will find WiFi routers installed at different spots of the campus to cope with its deficit in the hostel spaces at times.
  • Reliance's Jio is being used although good internet speed is available in the computer lab only.

They have two vast common halls for recreational activities and there are four washrooms on each floor. They are cleaned each morning. Sometimes you'd have to wait for your turn at bathing but it's manageable. There's a hostel lawn for physical activities.

Do IIIT Allahabad students apply for internships? When?

AA
Aarti Ahuja Posted On : July 4th, 2023
Lives in Allahabad

Several companies visit the IIIT Allahabad campus to recruit summer interns from among third-year students (during their 5th and 6th semesters). Most of these students are offered full-time jobs after the completion of their summer internships.

During the final year, most companies come to hire full-time employees. However, some companies do offer the students a 6-month internship that they can complete during their final (8th) semester. These internships may or may not come with full-time job offers. Usually, though, students are hired as full-time employees after completing these internships.

Those who go for 6-month internships during their final semester use the project that they worked on during their internship as their final major project. The candidates who end up staying on campus during their final semester work on a major project under some faculty.

How well would a 7 pointer in IIIT Allahabad get placed?

SA
Subham Agarwal Posted On : April 22nd, 2023
Indian Institute of Information Technology, Allahabad

It's difficult to predict exactly how well a student with a 7 pointer in IIIT Allahabad would get placed, as there are many factors that can affect placement opportunities. However, here are some things to keep in mind:

  • Grades are not the only factor that employers consider when hiring. While having good grades can be helpful, employers also consider factors such as internships, projects, skills, and extracurricular activities when evaluating candidates.
  • IIIT Allahabad is a well-regarded institution, and its graduates are highly sought after by many top companies. However, competition for jobs can be fierce, especially in popular fields like computer science.
  • The job market can be unpredictable and can fluctuate from year to year, depending on a variety of factors such as the state of the economy and industry trends.

That being said, a 7 pointer is a decent grade, and many students with similar grades have been successful in securing good jobs after graduation. However, it's important to remember that grades are just one piece of the puzzle, and students should focus on developing their skills and gaining practical experience through internships, projects, and other opportunities. Additionally, networking and building relationships with professionals in the field can also be helpful in securing job opportunities.

Which is better IT in IIIT Allahabad or Industrial Chemistry in IIT BHU or Civil in new IIT?

RS
Raunak Sharma Posted On : July 2nd, 2021
Dual Degree from Indian Institute of Technology Varanasi (2018)

Choosing streams like Industrial Chemistry can be tricky. Generally, students don’t even understand the scope of the basic courses, let alone a specialized course like chemistry. Don’t go for such a course if you are not well-informed about the career prospect.

If you are interested in civil engineering then don't waste time and apply to the new IITs. It is difficult to decide whether you are interested in a particular field. To find out you can get in contact with Civil Engineering graduates from good universities. Ask about their nature of work and growth in the field, etc. See if that sparks your interest. Also, you will have the option to go for GATE and appear in IES.
