It's true that IIIT Hyderabad students secure better packages than top IIT students. In fact, the average package of IITs for instance IIT Bombay is INR 23.26 LA whereas that of IIIT Hyderabad is INR 32 LPA. There are a number of factors that have resulted in this difference in packages.
In a refuted claim, IIT-Madras's Director, Bhaskar Ramamurthi states that ‘if we compare similar cohorts and discipline-wise median salaries, IIT graduates are likely to have higher median salaries’.
For placements, M.Tech is better than MS. This is because of the huge number of SDE jobs in India. To get good job offers, MS students must devote extra time to practice coding and problem solving.
In terms of exposure, MS is a better course. MS students at IIIT Hyderabad work with cutting-edge technologies and are in touch with the latest developments in their field. For this kind of exposure, M.Tech students need to devote extra time in doing relevant projects.
For Ph.D. aspirants, the research value at a global scale is more for the MS course. In this respect, M.Tech students can either convert to MS after a year or publish relevant research papers for paving their path into the area of research. The faculty is the same for both the courses at IIIT Hyderabad.
Thus, based on your preferences you can either choose M.Tech CSE or MS in CSE in IIIT Hyderabad. It is a renowned institution and will open numerous doors for you after your degree.
IIIT Hyderabad offers various undergraduate, postgraduate, and research programs. The admission criteria and cutoff for each program may vary.
For undergraduate programs such as B.Tech, the following exams are accepted:
The cutoff for JEE Main is determined based on factors such as the difficulty level of the exam, the number of applicants, the availability of seats, etc. Hence, the cutoff may vary every year.
For example, in 2021, the JEE Main cutoff for admission to IIIT Hyderabad for Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) was 1064. However, the cutoff may be different for other programs and categories.
</For Computer Science, IIIT Hyderabad is better. It offers better education and exposure in the field. The CSE department of IIIT Hyderabad has a great faculty base. There’s an active coding culture on campus.
The placement record for the department is great. IIIT Hyderabad CSE average package is INR 18.53 LPA. Due to the institute’s proximity to software industries, it’s easier to get good internships, and projects. The research interface of IIIT Hyderabad in CSE and allied areas is unparalleled.
For CSE, IIIT Hyderabad is better than all IITs, in terms of research, internships, packages, etc. In 2021, IIIT Hyderabad placements had witnessed the highest CTC of INR 56 LPA. The coding culture at the institute is unbeatable.
Here is a comparative analysis of IIIT Hyderabad and IIT Bombay
For branches other than CSE, IIT B is definitely the better choice. The institute has great facilities, extracurricular, and placements.
My brother is an alumnus of IIIT Hyderabad and even today he says that no doubt IIIT Hyderabad has excellent placements but that does not mean it can be compared to institutes of national importance like IITs and NITs that have been there for ages. Anyone making such a comparison isn’t aware of the brand value IITs have both within and outside India. Placements are not a direct reflection of the quality of education.
The truth is IIIT Hyderabad is a blossoming institute and is nowhere comparable to the top IITs and NITs at least as of now.
Firstly, your mode and time of admission do not affect your placement opportunities at all. That being said, IIIT Hyderabad has an excellent placement scenario that is increasing every year.
On an ending note, I would like to comment that placements shouldn't be the sole criteria for evaluating an institute as it is just one out of many aspects. Try considering other major parameters too like culture, research, other career options, further study, alumni, faculty, students, extra-curricular, etc
I assume you are specifically talking about the CSE branch only. In that case, IIIT Hyderabad is certainly better than ISM Dhanbad in many ways. It has better research opportunities, curriculum, placement scenarios, better recognition among software companies, and a higher number of people qualifying for ICPC and GSOC.
However, everything about IIIT Hyderabad is CS-tailored so if you are open to other options or aren’t yet certain of CSE, then choosing ISM Dhanbad will do you more good.
So ultimately the ‘better’ college depends on your choice.
One of my cousins was selected for both M.Tech VLSI and MS by research and had the opportunity to appear for the interview. The interview was pretty simple and they seemed to test your ability to understand and explain things.
Here are some of the questions asked by the interviewers:
General Questions
Technical Questions
After this, they enquired him about his projects.
Overall, the panelists evaluated his academic history, ability to explain things, understanding of basic concepts, and willingness to learn.
If you're trying to decide between IIIT Delhi and IIIT Allahabad, know that IIIT Delhi is better in many ways.
However, it's true that both IIIT Delhi and IIIT Allahabad aren't as good as IIIT Hyderabad at the moment. That being said, don't be surprised to see IIITD catching up soon, given its impressive progress over the years. In fact, IIITD has nearly doubled its campus size this year, and as a government university, the facilities and infrastructure are shocking - indoor heated swimming pool, stylish buildings and hostels, and awesome wifi speed.
Ultimately, whether to choose ECE or CSE depends entirely on your interests.
It's worth noting that IIIT Hyderabad's ECE program is superior to both IIIT Delhi's CSE program and IIIT Allahabad's CSE program.
