What should I choose between IIM Kozhikode, IIM Indore and NITIE Mumbai?

PB

If you want to pursue a career in operations, NITIE is superior to both IIM K and IIM Indore. Any other specialization is followed by IIM K, IIM I, and NITIE.

NITIE is the best college in India for operations management, but IIMs are unrivaled in terms of culture and rigor.

IIM K is superior to IIM I for two reasons:

  • IIM Indore has a large batch size.

  • IIM I has a lower level of diversity due to a lower number of work-ex people.

Why couldn't IIM A, B, and C compete with NITIE in operations?

NP

The question you have asked can also be interpreted as to why Microsoft is not currently competing with HAL in producing similar products since they both come with their own personal expertise.

Either of the institutes does not need to compete against one another because they already come with their own prospects, image, and information.

IIM Ahmedabad does not actually emphasize students to opt for a management function for pursuing a major or specialization. The course of general management is 2-years long with the liberty to choose electives as per one's choice and on the basis of academic profile in the second year. Students, before placements, are asked to rank and rate companies that they want to call on the campus during future offers.

In fact, IIM - A, B or C is not particularly competing with NITIE, Mumbai in Operations because they both have maintained their own personal brand values which are gigantically different.

They have, at present, established a whole perspective of General Management B-Schools. Apart from that, IIMs do not apparently require to participate in a competition against NITIE as any management course since students over and across India generally only prefer the former anyway.

How should I prepare for NITIE Mumbai through CAT?

MB
Mandeep Borse Posted On : August 20th, 2021
Studied at National Institute of Industrial Engineering (2019)

As some of my friends studied at NITE Mumbai, there are certain facts you should know before starting the preparations.

  • In NITIE Mumbai, for the course of PGDIM, the students with engineering backgrounds are only taken into consideration.
  • After the shortlisting is completed and a student is called for the GD and PI.
  • The score of CAT is not taken into account and the whole admission process takes place on the campus.
  • Now, for the final merit list, it's the scores of GD and PI, on which a student's admission is dependent.
  • For the GD round, it can be based on topics like IRP and for the PI round, the professors can ask questions based on the graduation.
  • Also, current affairs are very important for the PI as what's happening around the globe is something everyone should be aware of.

The questions in PI can be of puzzle form or from subjects like linear programming. Grab some of the weaknesses and strengths and effectively explain them.

What is the scope of the new PGDMM course of NITIE as far as placements are concerned?

SR

Studies MBA in Supply Chain and Operations Management at National Institute of Industrial Engineering

NITIE Mumbai has a great placement record and you only need to maintain a good academic record to secure a good placement package. NITIE is known for running an industry focus curriculum and has a proven record for all courses as far as placement is concerned.

Back in 2014, NITIE started two new courses, i.e. Project Management and Manufacturing Management. Due to the Government’s focus on Make in India, there are ample opportunities in the sector of manufacturing management in the future.

Along with the other courses at NITIE, PGDMM also has a great placement rate. Students of PGDMM get placed in different sectors and are not necessarily limited to manufacturing.

Here are the recent placement highlights of NITIE.

Average CTC  20 LPA
Highest CTC  44 LPA
Major recruiters  ETLI, IDFC First, EY, etc.

PGDMM students get almost equal opportunities as any other branch.

Are students from NITIE placed in other countries as well? If yes, in what countries?

A few of my friends graduated from NITIE and having read online reviews, here is some information I gathered, which might be useful for you.

  • Yes, students from NITIE are placed in other countries. It all depends upon the hiring company with their preferences of location.
  • However, there are middle east and African countries as locations during international placements.
  • Most of the companies recruit you to handle their operations in India. However, some FMCG & Consulting companies deploy you outside India based on the project you handle or if your role requires international exposure.
  • The timeline would be short for such cases.

In the previous year’s placement, 8 International offers were rolled out. International placements were offered by companies like Olam International and Dubai Telecom. Olam International made the highest international placement offer at USD 150,000 per annum. Having said that, Landmark group is a company that hires students for its operations in Dubai.

Is PGDISEM at NITIE a risk? I have heard that out of 35, only 11 got placed last year.

SG
Suresh Gupta Posted On : August 13th, 2021
Studied PGDISEM at National Institute of Industrial Engineering (2019)

Pursuing PGDISEM from NITIE is not a risk. NITIE Mumbai is counted as one of the most enormous colleges in MBA. It is among the top B-Schools in Mumbai such as TISS, NMIMS, and JBIMS.

PGDISEM has overall 39 seats, out of which 15 are reserved for industry-sponsored candidates. The remaining 24 seats are filled through CAT scores. In the previous batch, there were only 13 students, out of which two opted out from the placement process. It is why only 11 students were placed.

The placement statistics for PGDISEM are as follows:

Particulars PGDISEM Placements 2021
No. of People Placed 11
Highest Salary (Domestic) 23.8 LPA
Median Salary 13.80 LPA
Average Salary 15.94 LPA
PGDISEM Key Recruiters EY, Axis bank, ITC, Glenmark, Tata Motors, and many more.
Top 10% of the Batch 23.8 LPA
Top 70% of the Batch 18.63 LPA

The latest batch has only 16 students and this is the following summer placement Statistics. The highest stipend offered is 1.80 Lakhs while the average stipend is 1.35 lakhs.

You can get a little estimation of PGDISEM's demand in the industry. Whosoever said about safety or environment management, sustainability, or CSR to not have a future, needs to start reading.

Is it really tough to get admission to NITIE Mumbai?

NS
Niketan Sengar Posted On : August 20th, 2021
MBA Master of Business Administration Degrees & Supply Chain Management, NITIE Mumbai (2015)

One of my friends studied at NITIE Mumbai. According to him, it offers five different programs including an interdisciplinary Fellow program and a 1-year PGPEX program. The other three programs are –

  • Post Graduate Diploma in Industrial Engineering (PGDIE) which considers GATE score
  • Post Graduate Diploma in Industrial Management (PGDIM)
  • Post Graduate Diploma in Sustainability Management (PGDSM)

PGSIM and PGDSM consider CAT scores for admission. The process of admission for all three courses remains the same.

  • First, you have to clear the respective exams for eligibility i,e GATE or CAT.
  • Then you have to clear a certain cutoff set by the institute for getting a chance to sit for the GD and PI which are necessary for admission.
  • And then later on you will get admission based on your performance in all these fields.
  • The GD happens for close to 20-25 minutes which is followed by a PI which usually lasts for another 15-30 minutes.

The PGDIM course usually commands a percentile of more than 97 in CAT to sit for the GD/PI and then your overall score will determine your admission. For PGDIE, a score upwards of 750 in GATE is required for admission.

As far as toughness goes, scoring well in CAT and GATE, which are themselves pretty difficult exams, is the most important parameter.

What are your pgdie interview experiences in nitie? Please mention things other than general questions?

SG
Souvick Gupta Posted On : August 16th, 2021
Studied at the National Institute of Industrial Engineering

One of my friends recently appeared for the interview at NITIE and here is his experience in brief.

The interview panel consists of 5 members. First, there was a general introduction round. Then they asked questions related to the concepts from his B. Tech branch.

If you have any work experience or internship then you will be asked questions about it. If not, questions related to your final year project will be asked. There will be small talks related to your hobbies, background, and other HR questions like why NITIE, etc.

To do well in the interview, improve your communication skills, revise some concepts from your B. Tech, and learn more about generic concepts.

Which programme is better in terms of placement amongst PGDPM and PGDMM at NITIE, Mumbai?

NK
Nitin Kumar Posted On : August 16th, 2021
Studies PGDPM at NITIE Mumbai 2023

These courses were first inaugurated in the year 2014, and ever since then, students undeniably acquired satisfactory placement offers.

  • The seats in NITIE Mumbai depend upon which category you belong to.
  • The current seat availability is about 304, considering each course. This is one reason why both the courses are equally good to pursue.
  • Both PGDPM and PGDMM offer better results in terms of placements.
  • Talking about the scope, it is almost the same for both the courses. The opportunity either course will bring is similar and has less to no difference at all.
  • Both the subjects will allow students to sit for summer internships, as will be brought in by different firms.
  • Also it will permit all of them to sit for the final placements likewise.
  • The average salary offered for PGDPM is 12-15 LPA while for PGDMM, it is 11-12 LPA

The only separate piece of information this has is that in PGDPM, students are preferred by recruiters if they come with a minimum work experience of about 2 to 3 years.
