The University Grants Commission (UGC) has set up five zonal committees to facilitate universities in developing a roadmap for the effective implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP 2020)

New Delhi: The UGC has established five zonal committees, each tasked with overseeing the rollout and execution of NEP reforms across different regions of the country. The five committee covers the northern, northeastern, eastern, western, southern, and central regions, and comprise vice-chancellors from central, state, private, and deemed universities. 

MSU Baroda, Gujarat, is organizing the first conference on the implementation of NEP for the western zone today i.e., October 2023. The conference is being conducted from 9 am to 5 pm.

"As the conference is of high relevance and significance to all stakeholders, the UGC requests that universities and colleges join the live stream of the conference for the benefit of faculty, students, and staff," the university body said.

The UGC stated "The decision to constitute the zonal committees has been made to fulfill the vision of NEP 2020 and ensure that the benefits reach a large section of aspirational youth in a time-bound manner. This decision was taken to facilitate universities in developing a roadmap for the effective implementation of significant initiatives."

The foundation of NEP 2020 rests on five core principles: accessibility, equity, quality, cost-efficiency, and accountability, with the goal of preparing young individuals to tackle the diverse challenges of the present and future global and national contexts.
