What Students Say
Likes
- Close proximity to high tech industries in Eindhoven so lots of internship and project opportunities
- High research oriented professors and faculty
- International community is very active and vibrant in the university
Dislikes
- Highly engineering focused university, lack of other disciplines is evident
- International tuition fees is very steep, compared to EU tuition fees
- Masters program have a tendency to get extended due to internship/thesis project administrative issues, which implies students have to pay extra fees for the extended period
Course Curriculum
- First year was mainly theoretical and the second year was practical with an internship and final thesis. Internship was for 3 months and the thesis was for about 7 months. The course curriculum keeps changing so check the website for details.
- Classes were between 9 and 5, depending on the workload for that quartile. Usually 3-5 hours of lectures per day followed by time for assignment work. Average class size was about 45-60, depending on course. About 25 Indians in a total of 80 students.
Admission Experience
- Accepted: Eindhoven University of Technology, Clemson University, University of Michigan-Dearborn, University of Tennessee, Michigan technological university
- Waitlist: Chalmers, KTH
- Rejected: RWTH Aachen, University of Pennsylvania
- Reason for rejection: Low CGPA was the reason for Chalmers' waitlist. Bachelor's curriculum did not contain prerequisite coursework for RWTH
- Ranking was higher compared to other programmes. EIndhoven University had a proven track record of a number of graduates who were able to get jobs in good companies within the automotive industry.
- Application involved sending LORs, CV and Motivation Letter along with IELTS/TOEFL scores. GMAT/GRE were not required for this university.
- Apply early; don't wait for the deadline. Finding housing in Eindhoven is difficult; the earlier you get your admit, the faster you can start looking for houses.
- There is only 1 intake for Eindhoven University of Technology, so my decision was very easy. I applied for the 2018 Fall intake; the semester starts at the end of August 2018.
- I applied in December 2017 and got my admit in Feb/March 2018. So the process took about 2-3 months from application to decision. I arrived in Eindhoven in early August 2018, but some students opted for an early Dutch course and arrived in July 2018
Faculty
- Faculty student ratio can be found on the website; I'm not sure what it was when I was a student. Courses depended on the lecturers' choices; some had assignments every week, some had a large assignment and others had a final exam. Doing part-time jobs was extremely difficult, with fewer opportunities for english speakers and barely any time left after classes and assignments.
Campus Life
- Single campus that is close to the center of eindhoven, but has a separate area for all the buildings and labs. Sports center is located on campus; everything is accessible by foot or bicycle. Car parking is very expensive and is not recommended for students. There are many popular events, such as the graduation party in September and other sports-related events. There is an international student association which organises events every now and then
Part Time Jobs
- Very low ratio of students get Teaching Assistant (TA), Research Assistant (RA), or Departmental Assistant (DA) positions; it is very competitive. I would say 1 out of 10 students can secure jobs on campus. Off-campus jobs are also limited unless you speak Dutch; even then, there is a limit on the number of hours per week that you can work. I think it is 10h.
- Dutch universities for international students are not for part-time working; it is possible but very difficult. There is no support from the university for off-campus jobs and it is highly discouraged. On-campus jobs are limited in number, such as at the library assistants, supermarket workers, etc., but they are seasonal and depend upon the time of year and opportunity being present.
Placement
- About 75 percent of students secured employment within 6 months of graduation. This number was lower due to the fact that most students from my batch graduated during peak covid season (July-August 2020). Major companies that hire from Eindhoven University of Technology are ASML, Philips, DAF, NXP Semiconductors etc.
- Average salary range is between 45,000 and 60,000€ per year for a master's graduate; it changes based on the year and market.
Accommodation
- My accommodation was off campus; I did not get it from the university. I was lucky to find accommodation 1.5km from campus but others were less lucky. University has added more student housing on the campus so future students can find it easier.
- Finding houses in the Netherlands is tough; you have to be early, otherwise you don't get it. Keep applying and you are bound to get something.
Exams
- Standardised tests such as GRE/GMAT/SAT/EA were not required for this program.
- Application involved sending LORs, CV and Motivation Letter along with IELTS/TOEFL scores. GMAT/GRE were not required for this university.
- There was no interview process. After sending all the information, an acceptance letter was sent to my email along with next steps to proceed.
Fees
- Yearly Tuition fees: €16000
- Living Expenses: €12000
- First-year fees have to be paid upfront along with living expenses. Living expenses were given to us with a dutch bank account. Second-year fees can be paid in monthly instalments of €1600 per month.
- Monthly expenses can vary based on the individual. Back when I was studying, about 450€ for rent, 200€ for food and 100€ for other expenses. Now rents are higher and grocery costs are more, so I would assume about 1000 - 1200€ per month.
Scholarship
- Yes, there is a scholarship that is with the Dutch government. Scholarship amounts vary based on students. It can vary from completely free or partly reduced tuition fees or sometimes they provide a living expense amount as a stipend to the student. I am not sure about the process now.
- I did not receive a scholarship so I don't know too much about it.
