Course Curriculum

10

  • It feels difficult at the start, but eventually, when time passes, we get to know the process here, and it gets easy from there. It is natural to feel overwhelmed once you reach here and start your course.
  • For Masters in finance, it is 4 days a week for semester 1 and 2 days a week for semester 2
  • The average number of students in my course was 140.
  • Indian students out of 140 were 132.

Admission Experience

  • I applied to the following universities:
    • Dublin City University (DCU)
    • University College Dublin (UCD)
    • National College of Ireland (NCI)
    • University of Cork (UCC)
    • Maynooth University
    • University of Galway
  • College confirmation received from DCU, UCD & NCI
  • Rejections received from Maynooth and UCC
  • In my opinion, the universities focused more on different courses than my chosen course, as I was more focused on Sustainable finance and finance.
  • The main reason for choosing Dublin City University is the course outline; it included a subject that matched my prior work experience.
  • The application process included the submission of a course form at the university portal along with applying for a visa and taking appointments.
  • Duolingo or IELTS
  • As of now, the experience has been great; there have been times when I have felt lonely and tough situations have come up, but as an international student, I must go through thick and thin, and the university has good mental health programs that support and understand the students. Very good experience at DCU so far.
  • I had applied for the September intake; there were no such factors that influenced my decision; it was solely based on my availability during my office journey.
  • It approximately took 6 months for everything to be done.
  • I started my applications at the end of November 2023; then I received a confirmation letter in January 2024. I started the visa process later on, and then I had an appointment date on June 5th and received visa approval on July 11th. Then I fled to Dublin on 1st September 2024

Faculty

10

  • I am not aware of the exact ratio of faculty to students, but then for a master's in finance, we have around 13 professors of different modules or subjects.
  • Approach is very good and unique compared to India; professors in India focus more on giving the students optimum explanations and everything but here professors just give the students a rough idea and pointers in PPT, and more is based on self-study.
  • Faculty members do not assist students in finding part-time or full-time jobs through their personal networks or references.

Campus Life

10

  • Two campuses: Dublin City University Glasnevin Campus and Dublin City University St. Patricks Campus.
  • Library, sports facilities, and medical services are available on both campuses.
  • Clubs: photography, investment societies, outdoor adventures, cricket, football, badminton, hiking clubs, mental health awareness campaigns.
  • Major festivals: Halloween, Diwali, Holi

Part Time Jobs

  • In one particular course, only three or four out of the students of a course secure Teaching Assistant (TA), Research Assistant (RA), or Departmental Assistant (DA) positions.
  • Not aware of the pay range for TA/RA/DA positions.
  • 13.5 EUR, which is the minimum wage policy here in Dublin.
  • 40 hours per week is the maximum hours some students can get.
  • It feels a bit difficult due to the high number of applications and students.
  • students typically earn 13.5 EUR on an hourly basis in their part-time jobs. It depends on the application process of the student, on how often he or she is applying and what kind of applications, like whether it is just online or just offline or both of them. The usual process is we have multiple options, such as applying in food chains or giving our CVs away in stores and restaurants and then expect a call wherever the description matches.

Placement

10

  • I feel only 15% of students in my course secure a full-time job after completing the course or within 6 months of completion of the course.
  • 40000 EUR is the average salary range that most students in your program can expect to earn upon graduation
  • We have career fairs conducted at the university. apart from that, we have online platforms such as grad ireland and linkedin and other similar portals. There are recruitment agencies as well that help students find a job but charge some fee.
  • SEI, PWC, DELOITTE, KPMG, and ESB are the major companies.

Accommodation

Off Campus
10

  • I connected with people and students on Linkedin by looking at their profiles if they had studied at Dublin City University. There were other websites where they had provided accommodation services and every detail of the property.
  • My rent for the accommodation was 700 Euros; it included basic room and kitchen amenities such as wifi, kitchen tools, and accessories.
  • No challenges as such, it requires basic research just to be sure that you are not scammed.
  • Hazelwood accommodation is a suitable one for students considering Dublin City University.
  • My accommodation was 30 minutes away from Dublin City University.

Exams

  • IELTS, TOEFL, GMAT, and GRE are based on the courses that the individual is applying for, and Duolingo is also accepted at DCU.
  • Statement of purpose, resume, CV, letter of recommendation from previous university, and the corporate office if you have work experience. All the scholarships and mark sheets of previous classes.
  • I started my applications at the end of November 2023; then I received a confirmation letter in January 2024. I started the visa process later on, and then I had an appointment date on June 5th and received visa approval on July 11th. Then I fled to Dublin on 1st September 2024
  • It was conducted by a career counselor at NewStrides, Pune, and it helped me smoothen my application process.

Fees

  • The fee for a master's in finance is 17,600 euros; this includes every charge.
  • It is yearly; we can pay the first half of the fee while applying, and the rest can be paid after some time, basically in the second semester.
  • 1000 euros is the monthly regular expense that usually happens which includes rent, transportation and necessities.
  • It again depends on different individuals and their expenses.

Scholarship

  • Yes, I received a scholarship from Dublin City University itself, based on my grades, profile, and previous experience.
  • The amount received in the scholarship was 2000 euros, and it was directly deducted from my fees to make easy payment of the fee later.
  • Yes, some of them have received the scholarship; it was just 2000 euros for everyone.
  • I am not aware of the average scholarship.
