An initiative taken in 2001 by the then Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, two free coaching institutes for UPSC were set up and the primary one of them is of the Queen Mary's College UPSC Coaching Center. Every year an entrance is conducted for its recruitment, which involves questions from geography, public administration, history, economics, general science, general English, and current affairs, along with an interview, and 60 women graduates are selected and trained for the prestigious national examination's preliminary stage. Students from the college as well as from all over the state can appear for this opportunity. It is a free initiative funded by the government of Tamil Nadu. They also provide a generous library of over 3000 volumes of books. Computer and internet service is also provided to the trainees. The details of the entrance appear in the newspaper Dinamani.
