Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences Eligibility for Indian Students

Eligibility at h_da is set by German equivalence rules through the Anabin database, which grades every Indian degree by recognition status. Indian applicants also need an APS certificate from the German Embassy Delhi before enrolment or a student visa.

h_da IELTS Waiver for Indian Students

Indian applicants can skip the IELTS or TOEFL when they hold a Bachelor’s degree taught fully in English, verified by a Medium of Instruction (MOI) certificate from the awarding university. Native-speaker exemption applies rarely to Indian applicants. Two Master’s programs, M.Sc. Media, Technology and Society and M.A. International Media Cultural Work, drop the English requirement outright.

German Requirements at h_da

German-taught programs require B2 at application and DSH-2 or equivalent C1 by enrolment. Accepted certificates include DSH-2, TestDaF 4x4, Goethe C1, telc C1, DSD II and OSD C1. English-taught tracks do not require German for admission.

Hochschule Darmstadt UG Programs for Indian Students

Bachelor entry at h_da is competitive by faculty rather than institution-wide, and Indian Class XII holders should map their board grades against the Anabin H+ list before applying. UG tuition is free, with only the EUR 401 (around INR 44,368) semester fee due per term.

h_da MBA Admissions

The Master of Business Administration at Darmstadt Business School runs across four formats: Hybrid Full-Time, Hybrid Part-Time, Live-Online Full-Time and Live-Online Part-Time. This is the only fee-paying degree, with total tuition of EUR 27,900 (around INR 30.87 Lakhs).

MBA Rounds and Eligibility

Applicants need a recognised Bachelor’s and at least three years of full-time work experience. There is no GMAT or GRE requirement. Two specialisations are offered: General Management and TECH (Technology Management).

MBA English and Interview

English proof is IELTS 6.5 or TOEFL 88. Applicants without a valid score can sit a free on-campus English test at h_da between April and September. Darmstadt University Doctoral Admissions

h_da holds the independent right to award doctorates since 2016 through the state of Hesse, a rare status for a University of Applied Sciences. Doctorates run through Promotionszentren (doctoral centres) covering engineering, IT security, social sciences and applied health.

PhD Entry Requirements

Applicants need a recognised Master’s degree with strong final grades, typically 2.5 on the German scale or better, which maps to roughly 60 to 65 percent in Indian terms. A research proposal aligned to a Promotionszentrum theme and a supervisor’s letter of interest are both required before formal admission.

PhD Funding for Indian Applicants

PhD candidates apply for project positions with a monthly stipend or scholarships such as DAAD Research Grants for doctoral studies. Positions are advertised on the individual Promotionszentrum pages. No tuition is charged; only the semester fee of EUR 401 (around INR 44,368) applies.

h_da Application Process for Indian Students

Indian applicants apply through uni-assist, which runs the document check for every German university before forwarding to h_da’s own portal my.h-da. The MBA skips uni-assist and takes applications directly on my.h-da.

1. Create a uni-assist account at my.uni-assist.de and start the online application for h_da for the target intake.
2. Upload certified, translated copies of Class XII certificates, Bachelor’s transcripts, degree certificate, English or German test score, CV, motivation letter and APS certificate.
3. Pay the application fee of EUR 75 (around INR 8,298) for the first program choice on the uni-assist portal, plus EUR 30 (around INR 3,319) per additional program.
4. Post the required hard-copy documents to uni-assist Berlin within the deadline window.
5. Track the Vorpruefungsdokumentation (VPD) result on uni-assist; once released, upload the VPD reference to my.h-da for the final admission decision.
6. Receive the admission letter, apply for the student visa at the German Embassy Delhi, then enrol in person in Darmstadt.

Admission Decision Timeline

NC (restricted) programs release results in early August for Winter and mid-February for Summer. Free-admission and English-taught Master’s send decisions on a rolling basis, typically within four to eight weeks of a complete file at uni-assist. The MSE Electrical Engineering (International) sends offers by 15 April. Deferrals to the next intake are allowed on written request.

Visa slots at VFS Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru and Kolkata run 6 to 12 weeks; book right after the admission decision. On arrival in Darmstadt, register at the Buergeramt within two weeks and convert the visa to a residence permit within 90 days.

2026 update: The blocked account minimum was raised to EUR 11,904 in September 2024 and remains the current figure. Confirm the annual update on the Federal Foreign Office site before remitting.
