FH Aachen-University of Applied Sciences is a non-profit higher education and one of the biggest applied science universities in Germany. FH Aachen has 2 campuses; The main campus of FH Aachen is in Aachen and another one in Julich. The campuses are located in peaceful little towns with lush settings, with populations ranging from 20,000 to 32,000 people. FH Aachen provides accommodation services to its students through various means and resources. The university aims to provide residential facilities at a reasonable rate to its students to lessen their financial burden. In Jülich, monthly rent for student rooms ranges from 225 to 300 EUR, whereas in Aachen, it ranges from 250 to 350 EUR. Utilities may amount to 75 EUR every month (heating, power, etc.).

  • In Aachen and Jülich, the "Studierendenwerk Aachen" (Student Welfare Services) offers a variety of moderately cost housing options located throughout all its housing zones. All 24 resident halls have different types of rooms available, ranging from traditional single rooms and flats to shared apartments and family apartments for students with children. There are 7 faculties in the Aachen campus and 3 faculties in Julich Campus with 9,500 and 3,500 students respectively. FH Aachen offers over 100 bachelor’s and master’s degree programs along with dual studies programs. Most of the programs are offered in the German language. A limited number of courses are available in Bachelor’s while most English language programs are offered at master’s level.

FH Aachen-University of Applied Sciences Cost of Attendance

The cost of living in Aachen monthly amounts to 861 EUR. Prospective international students are advised to keep 10,332 EUR for yearly expenditure to live in Germany. The university doesn’t charge tuition fees to its students; it only requires its students to pay an obligatory social contribution (Sozialbeitrag) before the semester begins. This contribution is not a tuition fee; it goes to the Studierendenwerk Aachen (housing and social affairs) and the AStA (Student Union Executive Committee. It also includes the Semester Ticket (public transportation valid for one semester allowing students to use public transportation in North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW). FH Aachen-University of Applied Sciences Scholarship

FH Aachen itself doesn’t provide financial assistance or scholarship to overseas students as it does not have the financial resources to do so. However, it guides its students in obtaining significant international scholarships to study in Germany or assistance resources.

  • DAAD (Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst - German Academic Exchange Service) offers awards for socially active and engaged international students. To be eligible, the student needs to have a satisfactory above-average academic record and be engaged in promoting internationalization at the university.
  • DAAD also offers scholarships to international students who are near completion of their studies in the university. Eligibility is an incredible academic record in previous studies, registration for a thesis, and completion of 5 months of study.

Work While you Study

International students not from EU countries, the EEA, or Switzerland may only take up a job while studying if they have a work permit from the Employment Office and the Foreigners' Office. To get a work permit, students need to have a residence permit. When a work permit is issued, the legal provisions of a Residence Permit must always be followed.

To work without a work permit, international students need to follow some guidelines and fulfill certain conditions. They can work part-time for 120 full days and 240 half-days (no more than 4 hours a day). Students can also take jobs during university holidays. Another option available is to work as academic assistance or student assistant. To take this job, a work permit is not required as students only need to perform primarily auxiliary tasks. The Foreigners’ Registration Office must approve this engagement as an academic or student assistantship. In most cases, the commitment of up to 16 hours per week is permitted.

There is no specific cut-off for admission to FH Aachen. Different programs at FH Aachen may have varying selection criteria and competitiveness. A 55% average in a competitive program might be less favorable than in a less competitive one.

No, fully funded tuition fee scholarships are not available in University of Applied Sciences. You can apply for a scholarship which can cover upto 75% of the tuition fees.
