Course Curriculum

4

  • Not a lot of industry exposure at my time. Research experience was good. They have some very nice research groups in TU Chemnitz. Course Syllabus was quite poor when I was studying but they keep updating it every year; I'm not aware of the current situation. There were around 30-40 students in my class.

Admission Experience

  • When I was looking for my Master's, since I wanted to study Materials Science, Physics, Chemistry, and my bachelor's was in Chemical Engineering, it was hard for me to get accepted to a lot of good universities, such as TU Munich, TU Dresden, etc. My scores weren't very promising either. The MSc course at TU Chemnitz looked decent from outside, and I was quite desperate to leave India at that time, so I just took whatever opportunity was present to me. TUC is fairly easy to get into, especially if you don't have good grades.
  • I think they want a 6.5 in IELTS; that's it. No GRE required, at least when I did my applications. A CGPA of 7.5+ is required to guarantee admissions.

Faculty

8

  • Faculty is great and very approachable. I don't know the to-student ratio exactly but it's good enough that they're available for individual queries. Dr. Ulrich Schwarz in the Physics department was extremely nice and talented; I worked with him on nice projects.

Campus Life

6

  • Campus facilities are quite good. Multiple clubs, student organisations, the Indian student committee, and almost every major festival are celebrated. Campus life is fine. But the city is quite weird. And the people in it.

Part Time Jobs

  • I think enough on-campus opportunities are available, in and outside of University. 20 hrs/week, more than enough to cover your rent and other expenses. It is moderately easy to get these jobs, I'd say. One needs to be very proactive, though.

Placement

8

  • Avg Starting Salary would 50-55k Eur per annum. Not a lot of people completed their course in time due to COVID, and the job market was quite bad, still is, so a lot of people went into PhDs because of not getting industry positions.
  • The average time for placements were 6-12 months or more after course completion, mostly due to the very badly performing German economy and high competition, less demand, and the fluent German requirement.

Accommodation

Off Campus
10

  • Yes, many online platforms are available. It is extremely easy to find accommodations in Chemnitz. They are quite cheap as well. 200-300 Euros per month. The University has a portal to find accommodation on the campus, and outside of campus you have immoscout.de, wggesucht.de, etc. to find private accommodation. There are student whatsapp groups as well where you can find these things.

Exams

  • IELTS is mandatory. Regarding documents, LOR, SOP, and CV are required. Some of these are not mandatory but it will boost your applications if you have them, e.g., LORs.

Fees

  • No tuition fees in Germany. But you need to show around 10-11 LPA Rupees to get a visa. You pay around 250 Euros every semester for using University facilities, 130 Euros per month for your Health Insurance, these are mandatory costs.
