Colleges Where I Was Accepted

Reason for choosing my college

  • Most of the lectures in management are conducted in person. The course follows a flipped classroom approach where we are given high-quality course recordings from lecturers, prepare before class, discuss things, and conduct presentations with our professors. This acts as a simulation of the real-world business environment.
  • The lecturers are highly accomplished and have proven themselves in their respective fields. For example, the professor who teaches entrepreneurship is an entrepreneur and an angel investor. In a nutshell, this course grooms you to take up management positions and is very interactive.

Colleges Where I Was Rejected

Reason for Rejection

  • The main reason was my GMAT score and lack of relevant subjects in my bachelor's. Some German universities and courses are very peculiar about a student's background and subjects since the courses will be very demanding and our acceptance may not be fruitful since it'll be difficult to pass and keep up with peers who come from very relevant backgrounds.

CV

SOP

Tips to enhance your application

  • In SOP, state your experience and education, connecting with each in a story-telling manner. Connect everything very well and maintain a flow when writing.
  • Regarding your CV an easy tip would be to follow the Europass format and design it using a website called Europass.eu. Be genuine and humble, and formulate the sentences in your CV using the STAR method. Don't forget to include your experiences in social work.
  • Regarding LOR, that would depend on the person who would be writing, so show him relevant samples beforehand so that he would have an idea regarding the expected format.

Admission Experience

  • I chose Germany since it is one of the best destinations to pursue a career in the field of engineering. The academic reputation of the country's education system ranks in the top 5 in the world and RWTH Aachen University ranks among the top 10 in Germany.
  • There is a wide range of programs offered, from CS and mechanical to business education. Visit a website called www.daad.de to explore all the courses in Germany on one website. Germany is a very good destination for engineering students.
  • The overall life, I would say, would be hustling and constantly working hard. This educational life will teach you a lot of life skills as well as professional skills. You have everything here, provided you have the motivation to search, explore, and do things.

Class Schedule

8

  • In the first semester, there are classes almost 5 days a week. It would be intensive and prepare our foundations and mindset for the upcoming study and possible student work opportunities. The class timings will usually be 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM CET. The workload was reduced in the second semester as students focused on finding internships and we were allowed to take either online or offline classes for the given subjects, making it very work-friendly.
  • The class has an average strength of 35-50, with the average work experience of each candidate being around 3 years since this course requires a minimum of 1 year of work experience for application.
  • I would say the ratio of Indians to foreigners depends on intake for a particular year but roughly it could be around 60/40.
  • Most of the time goes to preparation before classes as it is highly encouraged to finish providing online video content to make sure all classmates are at the same level of basics to ensure a meaningful and fruitful discussion. This makes you disciplined and allows you to exchange your experiences and ideas rather than wasting time discussing basics in an in-person class.

Faculty

9

  • Per course, one head lecturer will be different for every course and there will be 1 or 2 Ph.D. students who assist them and us. Our project tasks are reviewed periodically before submission, providing us with expert guidance on the way. I would say there are approximately 15 different facilities handling different topics and a student batch of a maximum of 50 participants per year. The highlights of this course would be Strategic Management by Professor Salge and Marketing Management by Professor Wentzel. These were very interactive courses with group discussions, debates, and surprise tasks in between in-person discussion classes, which simulate the business environment.
  • Across Germany you won't be assisted in any form to get any jobs; it's all dependent on you and your approach and hard work. But you get dedicated business school career portal access, where you can find potential opportunities by yourself and apply to them. It's about getting out of your comfort zone and learning new things to land good jobs or opportunities.

Campus Life

8

  • The campus is lively and has a lot of clubs based on your interests. There will be some or the other event going on since this is the largest technical university in Germany. Keep in mind that you need to move out of the city to find a job opportunity since this is a student city with this university spread all over Aachen.
  • You have a sports center and all the other facilities that a typical university has but it'll be crowded. You'll have to attend meet-and-greet events, networking events with beer and snacks, and events at a startup ecosystem in Aachen called Collective Incubator. You'll have everything but it depends on how and how much you use those facilities.

Part Time Jobs

  • People move to major cities like Cologne, Berlin, and Munich. There are research and student assistant jobs in Aachen too. Student jobs get paid between 12 and 20 euros per hour based on position and nature of work. It's easy to get an odd part-time job and equally challenging to get a relevant part-time job, which is usually the same in a country.
  • There are TA/RA/DA roles listed on the university website or published by recruiters on LinkedIn. The typical pay would be 15-20 euros per hour. You can find other odd jobs here and posted; try to apply via the website or connect with somebody who is already working there.
  • The recommendation would be to learn German and to build maximum connections by networking that will help you a lot in the long run and to find potential opportunities.
  • The maximum hours allowed to work for students is 20 hours per week during study duration or 40 hours per week on vacations. The maximum number of allowed working days per year is 140 days or 240 half days. So it depends on how you manage it; anything would be okay until you exceed this limit.

Placement

8

  • There are plenty of openings that are posted on LinkedIn. Anyone put Germany in filters and get an idea about the market. A key suggestion to fulfill one of the major requirements would be to try to enter Germany with at least a B1 level of German and the rest depends on your skill set and ability to present and sell yourself in an interview. 50% of the batch usually secures a job within six months.
  • The average salary would be 50K euros or above per year and really depends on your profile and past experience. So there is no solid, fixed number, just a rough estimate that I have mentioned above.
  • Students apply on LinkedIn, the company's careers portals, company bonding events happening in a city or through the university career portal, etc. You can take the assistance of the business school career service team to refine your resume and cover letter and attend their workshops to hone your skills.
  • I would say the lowest band is 45k euros per year and the highest would depend on your profile and performance. To keep this realistic, I could say the highest would be around 70-80k euros per year.

Accommodation

Off Campus
7

  • You can use the university website to apply for student dorms, WG-Gesucht, and other relevant apps. Challenges would be that the process is highly time-consuming and fake ads. Make sure you pay the amount in person after coming here if you don't find the opportunity to be reliable.
  • One suggestion would be to make friends in Aachen through LinkedIn who will be your senior so that he can assist you, guide you, recommend you, and possibly check the accommodation options if it's genuine.
