- It is one of the best University in Germany (228 in QS World University Rankings 2023.). I was interested to work in the direction of Nanobiotechnology and my supervisor, Prof. Wolfgang J Parak, is a pioneer in this field. I was always keen to work under his supervision. So, when he had a opening for PhD position, I applied for that.
- A lot of opportunities for scientific collaboration, International exposure, Highly equipped and sophisticated labs. Independent work environment. Opportunities to interact with international students, Participation in various career development programmes.
Dislikes
- There is nothing to dislike. I believe, every hard situations are the openings to new opportunities. Initially one may have problems with language barrier in academic administrative section but taking few language courses, really helps to get integrated in the system.
I got the best exposure in my life. I was a member of peer helmoltze research group, where one can get chance to interact with many fellow researchers of different field. My perspective towards higher study was totally changed and I was able to understand how interdisciplinary are all the subjects.
Course Curriculum
Course syllabus was very much updated. I was able to participate in many international conferences, workshops and career development programs.
Faculty
All faculties and stuffs were very supportive. My supervisor Prof. Wolfgang Parak is very supportive and helpful. Other than that Prof. Tobias Beck was also very supportive. If they have funding they will definitely help a deserving candidate. Also they support deserving candidate for different fellowship applications.
Campus Life
Campus life is very good, World class facilities, library is of international standard.
Placement
Very good. Learning German language during study will really help to get in the job market. Although my German was not that good. I got a position as research associate in Hraunhofer institute Hamburg.
Accommodation
Student accommodations are available.
Exams
For my case there was no need for such language tests for PhD admission. I had a virtual interview with my supervisor and all me academic documents were verified by the University to check the eligibility criterion. Following that I applied for DAAD PhD fellowship and Fazit-Stiftung fellowship. My project was selected for Fazit doctoral fellowship and I started my work there. I had to submit my CV along with motivation letter, all academic records and summary of my M.Sc thesis. Interview was mostly based on my scientific knowledge, work done in my M.Sc thesis and few basic questions about my career goals. I was only interviewed by my Ph.D Supervisor.
Fees
300 euro per semester.
Scholarship
I got Fazit-Stifftung fellowship, which is 12000 euro/ year for 2.5 years. That was extended to another 6 months. To apply for this, I had to submit a fully planned PhD research proposal after discussion with my supervisor. I had to also submit my University admission document, Consent letters of two German Professors who will be my supervisors during my research stay, Budget plan, time Schedule, academic documents etc.
