Ruhr University Bochum Admission 2027
Ruhr University Bochum runs two intakes per year: Winter Semester starting October and Summer Semester starting April. For Indian students, Winter is the primary intake with wider programme choice and stronger housing availability. This section covers the 2027 cycles. Full document checklists and application walkthroughs live in the Admissions silo.
| Milestone | Date | Notes for Indian Applicants |
|---|---|---|
| Summer Semester 2027 deadline | 15 January 2027 | Roughly 30 master programmes accept; classes begin April 2027 |
| MS Computer Science (Winter 2027/28) | 15 December 2026 | Earlier than the general deadline; verify at informatik.rub.de |

Ruhr University Bochum Admission Requirements for Indian Applicants 2027
Indian applicants face two core hurdles: academic equivalency verification through APS and language proof in English or German. Below are the threshold requirements. Document lists and waiver rules sit in the Admissions silo.
PG Requirements for Indian Applicants at Ruhr University Bochum
- Academic: Recognised bachelor’s degree with minimum 65% (Indian 6.5 CGPA); competitive tracks like Applied CS require 70% (Indian 7.0 CGPA).
- English (for English-medium tracks): IELTS Academic 6.0 or TOEFL iBT 79 (0-120 legacy scale); some programmes accept UACES B2.
- German (for German-medium tracks): DSH 2 or TestDaF 4 in each of the four modules; Clinical Psychology requires C1.
- Credential verification: APS certificate from German Embassy New Delhi mandatory for all Indian applicants.
UG Requirements for Indian Applicants at Ruhr University Bochum
- Academic: Class 12 (CBSE/ISC) with minimum 70% plus Studienkolleg completion, or completion of one year at an accredited Indian university.
- German language: DSH 2 or TestDaF 4 as most UG programmes are German-medium.
- Credential verification: APS certificate mandatory before online application.
Key insight: IELTS 6.0 is the floor at Ruhr University Bochum, well below the 6.5 typical at RWTH Aachen or TUM. Indian applicants with 6.0 overall bands (no sub-score requirement) qualify without a retake for English-taught masters.
Ruhr University Bochum Acceptance Rate 2027
Ruhr University Bochum has an estimated acceptance rate of around 40% for international applicants. According to third-party aggregators, this figure reflects recent cycles. The university does not publish official year-on-year admission ratios.
For Indian master applicants, the effective acceptance rate for competitive tracks like Applied Computer Science and IT Security runs closer to 25-30%. Restricted-admission programmes use a numerus clausus system. This ranks candidates by GPA, work experience and motivation letter quality.
Reality check: A published rate of 40% does not mean 40% of Indian CS applicants get in. Popular English-taught masters admit fewer than one in three international applicants. Candidates below the 70% bachelor threshold get rejected outright.
Ruhr University Bochum Fees and Cost of Living for Indian Students 2027
Total annual cost at Ruhr University Bochum runs between €10,600 and €17,980 for Indian students. That is ₹11.55 lakh to ₹19.60 lakh at the July 2026 exchange rate. Zero tuition keeps the total far below UK and US public universities.
Ruhr University Bochum Semester Contribution for Indian Students 2027
The university charges zero tuition for any programme. Indian students pay only the semester contribution, uniform across UG and PG tracks.
| Fee Category | Amount (EUR) | Amount (INR) |
|---|---|---|
| Tuition (all programmes) | €0 | ₹0 |
| Semester contribution per semester | €350 | ₹38,150 |
| Annual total (2 semesters) | €700 | ₹76,300 |
| Application fee via uni-assist (typical) | €75 first, €30 additional | ₹8,175 first |

Ruhr University Bochum Placements and Career Outcomes
According to Federal Statistical Office data, German engineering graduates see around 90% employment within six months of graduation. Ruhr University Bochum does not run campus placement drives in the Indian sense. Career outcomes rely on the RUB Career Service and the dense Ruhr region job market.
- Employment within 6 months: around 90% (Germany-wide graduate benchmark; RUB does not publish institutional figures).
- Median starting salary (Engineering/CS MS): €50,000-58,000 gross (₹54.50 lakh to ₹63.20 lakh) per year (market median).
- Top hiring sectors: Automotive (Opel, ThyssenKrupp), IT security (G Data, ESCRYPT), chemical (Bayer, Evonik), banking (Deutsche Bank Bochum office).
- Career Service: CV reviews, industry contact days each semester and language coaching for Indian graduates.
- Indian alumni notes: RUB alumni hold engineering and research roles across Bosch, SAP and Volkswagen; individual counts not officially disclosed.

Ruhr University Bochum vs Peer Universities
The peer set below covers North Rhine-Westphalia and comparable German public research universities. Comparison focuses on the metrics Indian PG applicants weigh: rank, cost, acceptance and post-degree salary.
| University | QS Rank 2027 | Acceptance Rate | Avg PG Annual Admin | Median Salary (Post-MS) | Differentiator |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ruhr University Bochum | =402 | ~40% (est.) | €700 (₹76,300) | €50,000 (₹54.50 lakh) | Strong IT security and materials science |
| TU Dortmund | =555 (est.) | ~50% (est.) | €650 (₹70,850) | €52,000 (₹56.68 lakh) | Statistics and industrial engineering focus |
| University of Duisburg-Essen | =537 (est.) | ~45% (est.) | €680 (₹74,120) | €48,000 (₹52.32 lakh) | Automotive engineering and NanoScience |
| RWTH Aachen | =99 | ~10% (est.) | €600 (₹65,400) | €62,000 (₹67.58 lakh) | Germany’s top engineering institution |
| University of Cologne | =354 | ~25% (est.) | €620 (₹67,580) | €55,000 (₹59.95 lakh) | Economics and law dominance |
Ruhr University Bochum trades ranking depth for accessibility. Indian applicants shut out of RWTH Aachen or TU Munich often secure Bochum admission with the same profile.
The tuition-free structure and lower cost of living give a stronger ROI than urban peers in Cologne or Munich. Indian graduates targeting IT security, applied CS and materials science should treat Bochum as a first-choice option.
Ruhr University Bochum suits Indian students who want a tuition-free, research-heavy public university with English-medium master options in computer science, engineering and materials. Total two-year investment starts near €22,000 (₹24 lakh) at conservative living cost levels. That is recoverable within a single year of median MS earnings in Germany.
The university is not ideal for applicants seeking small cohort classes, ranked business school prestige or intensive campus placement drives. Those prioritising ranked placement guarantee and MBA-focused cohorts should consider Technical University of Munich as a stronger alternative. Application timelines and cost profile at Munich differ substantially.
