University of Augsburg Application Process via uni-assist and VIBS

Indian applicants apply through two portals in sequence. First, uni-assist verifies your foreign qualifications and issues a Vorprüfungsdokumentation (VPD, or preliminary review document). Then, the University of Augsburg’s own VIBS portal takes the actual application. Full steps below, per the official application page.

University of Augsburg Admission Decisions and Timelines

Once the deadline passes, the University of Augsburg batches decisions by programme. Indian applicants typically receive a decision 4 to 8 weeks after the deadline. Aptitude-assessment programmes such as Data Science, Software Engineering Elite, and Global Business Management take the longer end.

  • Offer letter timing: Late August 2026 for Winter 2026/27 open-admission programmes.
  • Acceptance deadline: Typically 4 to 6 weeks from offer, tied to the enrolment window.
  • Conditional offers: Common where German or English proof is pending, cleared at enrolment.
  • Deferral: Not routinely granted; plan to reapply for the next cycle instead.
  • Rejections: Usually issued via email with a short reason code; appeal within 30 days.

Planning note: Book your German consulate visa slot the day you accept the offer. Delhi and Mumbai slots for October intake fill by mid-August most years, and the visa itself needs 6 to 12 weeks of processing.

University of Augsburg Documents Required for Application

Documents are uploaded to uni-assist first, then paper copies are couriered to the Registrar’s Office once the VPD is issued. All non-German, non-English, non-French documents need a certified translation. Everything below is confirmed on the international applicants page.

  • Valid passport, biodata page.
  • APS certificate original.
  • Class XII marksheet and passing certificate, certified copies.
  • Bachelor’s degree certificate and semester-wise transcripts, for Master’s applicants.
  • English proficiency test score report (IELTS, TOEFL iBT, or Cambridge).
  • German language certificate (DSH, TestDaF, or telc), where the programme requires it.
  • CV in Europass format.
  • Statement of Purpose, for aptitude-assessment programmes.
  • Two Letters of Recommendation, for select Master’s programmes.
  • Biometric passport photo.
  • Uni-assist VPD (Vorprüfungsdokumentation), issued after step 5 of the process.
  • GMAT score report, for Global Business Management applicants only.

University of Augsburg Acceptance Rate for Indian Students

The University of Augsburg does not publish an official institution-wide acceptance rate. Third-party estimates place the overall figure at around 30 to 50% for competitive aptitude-assessment Master’s tracks, and roughly 70% for open-admission programmes without a selection filter, based on the split between restricted and open admission across faculties.

Which programmes are the most competitive?

The tightest Indian-applicant funnels are Global Business Management (M.Sc.), Data Science (M.Sc.), and Software Engineering Elite (M.Sc.). All three run aptitude assessments and cap intake below 60 students per cohort, so acceptance sits closer to the 30% end. Check the current ranking band before applying to gauge peer competition.

University of Augsburg admissions for Indian students hinge on three timelines: APS certification, uni-assist processing, and the visa slot at digital.diplo.de. Line these up early and Augsburg’s zero-tuition, open-admission Master’s routes become one of Germany’s most accessible study paths.

Overview

The size, the location, and they have my major. Only 2 schools in Minnesota offer a music Business program and Augsburg just felt right. It's also an ELCA which is what I grew up in. So that was an added bonus on top.

Scholarship

Yes! Our university is 98% financial aid driven which means 98% of students get some sort of financial aid which is incredible! For a sticker price of about $42,000, I'm paying less than $6,000 per semester!
