Important Consideration: If you are studying full-time, the U-Pass (bus pass) is already included in your fall semester fees. You do not have to pay extra for it. This pass lets you use public buses and transit in the city. However, the U-Pass is only for students. If your family members or dependents are with you, they cannot use your U-Pass. They will need to buy their own *PRESTO card or bus tickets from OC Transpo (the local transport service).

PRESTO: It is a reloadable transit card used for public buses and trains in Ottawa. Full-time students get a U-Pass included in their fall fees, but dependents must use their own PRESTO cards or buy separate tickets.

Carleton University First‑Year Fee Requirement for Study Permit

Students planning to take admission at Carleton University must apply for a Canadian Study Permit. As per Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), students must have sufficient funds to cover their first year of tuition costs. Students must show their capability to pay these costs before their arrival in Canada. Based on official Carleton accounts receivable data:

  • IRCC (Canada’s immigration authority) states that students applying after January 2024 must show about CAD 20,635 (INR 13.71 Lakhs) for living expenses in addition to first‑year tuition + travel costs on top of your fees when you apply for a study permit.
  • Your first‑year tuition payment does not have to be fully paid before applying, but you must show proof of funding Either by showing the tuition deposit, bank funds, or a combination of scholarship/loan letters.

Note: Specific program fees for 2026 may be slightly adjusted, but the university provides a fee calculator so applicants can estimate exact amounts for the year they enter.

Carleton University Tuition Fee Payment

Carleton University does not accept cash or payments made directly at the campus if you are outside Canada. All international payments must be made using approved online/electronic systems.

International students can pay their fees through any of the three payment options listed below.

  • CIBC International Student Pay
  • Convera
  • Flywire

These payment systems are for:

  • Tuition fees
  • Housing fees
  • CAD 2,000 (INR 1.32 L) international tuition deposit (only refundable if your study permit is refused)

Points to Consider:

  • Direct international bank wire transfers (sending a wire straight to a Carleton account without using the platforms above) are not accepted.
  • Carleton University will not issue refunds in Canadian dollars. Refunds are always returned to the original sender’s account in the sending currency.

Note: Payment processing and posting to your student account may take several days, and in some cases up to 14 days, depending on your country and chosen payment method.

Students can check out the video mentioned above, which has the steps to apply for a secured payment via CIBC International Student Pay.

  • I would recommend people to join for thesis-based over course-based. That will have more exposure to the other aspects of the learnings. That would also help you while you enter your career.

  • My program tuition fees was approximately $40K.

The course curriculum is quite relevant and updated with regards to my chosen undergraduate degree, as the university offers a variety of electives in order to strengthen one's overall knowledge about the content.

Fees

On an average, the Bachelor of Arts Honours course (without the scholarship) goes up to $15,000 per semester.

Each course is 0.5 credits, and I need to complete 20 credits to graduate from the program (40 courses in 4 years). Some classes are small (1:8 ratio) and some are huge (1:200). Usually, the mandatory computer science classes would have a size of anywhere between 100-200.

Fees

Funding from parents for tuition fees. Part-time jobs and teaching assistantship has helped me manage my living expenses here in Canada. It's not cheap, but its the same all across North America for undergrad programs, unless you're on a full-ride.

It is a wonderful curriculum that is specialized yet encompasses many fields staying true to the interdisciplinary nature of cognitive science. Classes range from psychology linguistics neuroscience artificial intelligence and much more

Fees

There are many scholarships awarded for students according to grades but they're also many scholarships for students in need or in a tight financial situation as well as international applicants which can be further discussed with financial aid offices located on campus. Tuition is paid by semester and differs for each student

I have not learned much of what I had wanted to. Once I obtain a position in this field I will definitely need extensive further training and education.

Fees

The tuition is very affordable at Carleton and there are lots of opportunities for bursaries and scholarships. There is often an entrance scholarship for most students and more based on your GPA. I used OSAP and my entrance scholarship to pay for my tuition in addition to prior savings. However, changes to OSAP mean that my most recent tuition left me paying $1200 out of my pocket
