Colleges Where I Was Accepted
Reason for choosing my college
Regina is close to home so I decided to start here as a mature student. I grew up in South East Saskatchewan. I didn't apply to other schools but I was considering to apply to the University of Saskatchewan and the University of Calgary for how close it is, and Mount Allison University for it being close to my extended family.
Colleges Where I Was Rejected
Reason for Rejection
I know for a fact that its acceptance rate and the expectations of a University of Toronto student wouldn't fit my skillset as of now. maybe if I pursue a master's degree I will be better suited to apply as the U of T is very competitive.

Tips to enhance your application
- Share your life experiences and how, as a mature student, you can show you will get your work done. Show how your life skills can apply to university. Another thing you can do is show volunteer experience.
Admission Experience
- I chose the University of Regina because I live in the area. Also, at first I assumed the academic reputation would be par for my standards. unfortunately I find too many professors that are politically charged up when it is not appropriate. My marketing teacher went on rants about white supremacy. My first english assignment was to proofread Karl Marx of all people. i have an economics professor going off about "right-wing ideology and how harmful mainstream right-wing media is and how dangerous it is to read", etc. etc. housing services here are a joke; they're disorganised, and they have weird policies, such as not being allowed to have a couch in your room, not being allowed to set up a living room, etc., etc.
- Overall the computer science courses I’ve taken are pretty solid; i just find many other courses to be too political, especially when the course shouldn't be political. The campus is ok; I wish we had a Student Union that wasn't being investigated for fraud and rigging elections....
Class Schedule
- For full-time students, classes are 3-8 times a week if you have 3-5 courses registered. Classes can be between 9am and 10pm. The average strength of a class is sub-par; average grades can be between 55% and 65%.
- There are many east Indians at my course hahaha. I find Indians are the biggest minority group at the University of Regina. For self-study at home I put in a few hours a day minimum.
Faculty
- Faculty-to-student ratios are ok; I find that the classes can be a couple dozen students per teacher. The best faculties are computer science because they don't constantly tell me that I am oppressed because I am native and that White people from the past were terrible. So far I haven't found a job, but that is on me to step up.
Campus Life
- There are about 12 campuses, a library, science and classroom buildings, a gym, dining, 4 housing campuses, and a couple others I can't think of.
- Popular events include UR campus events, dinners, Toastmasters, rec sports, gym exercises, football games, volleyball games, indigenous culture traditions, and sports games to watch together.
Part Time Jobs
- I am not east Indian so I cannot speak. but as a west Indian, a Native male, I find that many natives like to work in Indigenous communities and their activist causes.
- To find a job, it is as easy as you are persistent and qualified. If you network, show your capabilities, and are able to get the job done, then you probably have a job.
- Usually a class has 1 or 2 teacher's assistants. I am not sure how much each would be paid. There are on-campus jobs; I have heard they pay less than minimum wage.
- I have heard they are always hiring video recorders, ambassadors, security, IT support, maintenance, etc. I am not sure what the maximum hours of work allowed per week are.
