What Students Say
Likes
- The math faculty offers many fantastic events and activities to help its students destress and socialize. The faculty members and staff are also the best I’ve ever seen.
Dislikes
- Students can be more academically competitive, which is not great for mental health at times. If you are prone to stress and criticism, another university might be a better option.
I chose this university because of rigorous academic abilities, similar culture, friends attending, good co-op program. Overall, I’m really glad I chose to attend the University of Waterloo. The academic culture pushes you to succeed, and many people are very supportive and helpful. It’s a nice city that doesn’t have too many distractions.
Course Curriculum
The syllabus is always updated and relevant. Experience-wise, there is an optional co-op program every other term that is very good for future careers. The quality of the course curriculum varies depending on the faculty, but overall very good.
Faculty
The quality of faculty and staff varies depending on which faculty you are in but overall, they are kind and want to help students succeed. Notable professors: Dan Wolczuk (calculus 2), and Michael Wallace (statistics).
Campus Life
The university tries to get students involved in campus life and events, which is pretty nice. There are also over 100 clubs.
Placement
Waterloo students are much more employable than other universities since we’ve already gotten co-op experiences before graduating.
Accommodation
There are many different residences on campus, for first years and upper years. They are about the same cost as renting a decent-quality one-bedroom apartment off-campus.
Exams
- Average requirement from high school is high 80s. - current CGPA: 86% - Grade 10 average: 95; Grade 12 average: 90. - No documents were required. No interviews were required. We had to write about our hobbies and volunteer experiences, and why we wanted to attend this university.
Fees
Around 700 per course. For a fully loaded term (5 courses), tuition + fees would round up to about $4700
Scholarship
Merit Scholarship ($1000) for entry average above 85%.
