What Students Say
Likes
- A short program with a specialized concentration. Wanted to explore an 8 months post grad program before I pursed a masters degree.
- The Professors were very helpful and showed interest in teaching. The infrastructure was decent and the college had facilities like a gym and other sports clubs.
Dislikes
- The post-grad opportunities were very less and students found difficulties in getting a field-related job due to lack of placements and the value of the degree itself.
Overall, it was a pretty below-average experience at George Brown College, as the degree didn't meet my expectations. I was expecting to get industry-related jobs but had difficulties in finding one because a post-graduate certificate is not valued like a Master's Degree.
Course Curriculum
The course curriculum was based on the Canadian Markets and provided an overview of sectors like personal financial planning, retirement planning, Canadian Income Tax and Canadian Investments.
Faculty
I'm unsure about the faculty-to-student ratio but it was similar to an Indian Institute. The staff were helpful and lenient and had a good knowledge about their respective fields. Prof Micheal Hlinka had a meaningful impact on my life and encouraged me to pursue certifications along side my program.
Campus Life
The Campus life was vibrant, particularly the main campus and not the baby campuses. And the infrastructure was good enough as it was located in Downtown Toronto. There were various clubs and sports teams to join, and the library was decent and the campuses had good WiFi.
Placement
The post-study placement is not impressive at all and the College didn't have any research opportunities for my program. We just had 2 sessions with CIBC and TD Bank, but they too were looking for something better than just a post-grad certificate.
Accommodation
Students can find accommodation in the Downtown area itself but it's pretty expensive and can be shared with roommates. The average rent for a private room in downtown Toronto in a shared apartment is 1000$. Whereas students can find accommodation in the neighbouring areas where the rent for a private room could be close to 600-800$ depending on the location.
Exams
I did not give a GRE/GMAT Test since it wasn’t required for admission, I gave the IELTS test and scored 7.0 bands, the minimum requirement for admission was 6.5 bands. I had submitted an SOP and Resume, the main points highlighted were my future academic and career goals and my co-curricular activities in the past and volunteering experience.
Fees
The fees for my program for the academic year were close to about 18,800 Canadian Dollars.
Scholarship
No, I did not receive a scholarship, my College doesn’t offer scholarships.
