What Students Say?
Likes
- I was quite late at my application, which missed my chance to get into the university I preferred the most, but I accepted the offer from this university being a reputed one along with its location being in a area where I can found huge Indian community which helped me ease my journey.
- No pressure to study, if you wish to attend the lecture you can or you can leave , you just need to focus on assignments or some in-class exams. So I liked this as studying should never be a compulsion.
Dislikes
- The way of teaching through PPTs is what I dislike about my university or any other Canadian college or university as there should be some better approach.
Canadian study experience is very different from one back in India. So I won't recommend my university much. Because students basically focus here to complete the masters and get a job to stay back here. If you actually want to study then I recommend getting into much more good university, and if your focus is also to stay here then you can get into this.
Course Curriculum
Its a course based program and the syllabus is relevant definitely, but there are selective options for you to choose what subjects you want to choose to study for your masters. The curriculum is basically focused towards majorly assignments and some exam (multiple choice) in majorly all canadian institutes or universities. My program didn't had a co-op included so for the industrial exposure we need have that and for research we need to enroll into a thesis based masters.
Exams
My Scores: IELTS: 7.0 (Listening: 8.5, Reading: 6.0, Writing: 7.0, Speaking:7.0). 1. 3 LORs (I tried to get one of them from department HOD) 2. Very strong SoP (I had some work experience along with internships which helped me made my resume strong) Points to include in SoP: => Introduction => Academic Background => Professional Experience => Reasons to choose the specific course => Reason to choose specific university 3. Standard resume/CV.
Placement
Not experienced yet, but based on my conversation with others there is no placement kind of thing in universities here they can help you get insights of how you land a good job but getting one is totally on you.
Internship
No, working to find one.
Fees
Tution fees keep raising every 1-2 year so consider a buffer. Below are the fees for 3 semesters they defer for different semesters. And you can decide in how many semesters you want to complete your masters. (Minimum is 3 semesters currently based on the credits we need to finish) Currently (2024) : Summer : 11,385 CAD, Winter: 11,395 CAD, Fall: 12,462 CAD
Scholarship
No scholarship
Faculty
Universities don't prefer to have crowded classes, 35-40 max students with a faculty for a specific subject. The faculties are majorly the once with PhD so they do have knowledge but their way to deliver knowledge is not that great they basically use PPTs in lecture and you can arrange a meeting if you have some doubts.
Campus Life
Campus life is great at the university with high maintained campus with a university center which helps student meet and study where major food facilities are also available. University keeps arranging workshops and event to engage student so you can take part if you want. Yes all facilities like Wifi, sports, library is great.
Hostel
Accommodation is quite expensive in Canada. Hence, I choose to stay off-campus. Offcampus cost for a sharing room (for 2) is approx. 500CAD , you need to cook your own food and if you choose to share groceries then approx. 200-400CAD depending upon what you eat. If you choose for a tiffin service a single meal cost 10CAD so approx. 300CAD for one time meal for a month.
