- I always wished to pursue a Master's degree in Canada. There are so many Universities in Canada that offers a Master's program but there are just a few which accept admissions with 15 years of studies (12 + 3 years Bachelor's). Majority of the Universities have a minimum requirement of 16 years of education to be eligible to pursue a Master's degree.
- My university gave me the opportunity to pursue the program I desired with my 15 years of education. The teachers here are well-trained professionals and the environment is peaceful. We can even take one on one courses with our choice of instructor, that way we can explore our interests more. I had choices in other provinces too but the weather in British Columbia is the best in overall Canada so studying here was the best choice.
Required Exams for Admission
I have had a very pleasant experience at my University. Even though the studies are tough then in India, the faculty is very helpful and even the other students are very friendly with me. The staff has always helped me get through any situation. The grading system is also very fair and unbiased. The campus is very peaceful. The free printing helps me with managing my assignments budget. The only issue is that the bus facilities are very poor in the city where my University is located.
Course Curriculum
The course syllabus is well-updated and the courses that I have to study here to fulfill the credit requirements match perfectly with my previous education and my future goals. On the bright side, I have also been given a chance to be a research assistant for a project at my University which will bring tremendous growth to my resume. This position is not for all students. The selections are based on your skills and your confidence in making the project a success. However, there are other sections like newsletters, magazines, booklets, etc. where students can get their work published for free. All the students of the university have access to such opportunities. There is even a writing center at my University to help international students learn about the Canadian education system.
Faculty
The faculty is very friendly to students. The encourage everyone to meet them apart from the class hours for any doubts or just a general chit chat to build a teacher-student bond. They try to know their students' interests and capabilities through regular conversations and personally contact them when they find relevant opportunities. If in case any faculty or a staff member is unavailable on campus, they even arrange a Zoom meeting for students if they what to discuss a doubt or any matter. A student is never ignored at my university. I would like to mention about Dr. Holly Nelson who was my instructor in the first semester. She is the kindest person I found on campus. She helped me not only just with my studies but also with fighting the homesickness that I got during my first 2-3 months in Canada. She even boosted my confidence and referred me for the position of research assistant at my university.
Campus Life
We have a very huge campus at Langley. We have a gym, library, students center, music room, prayer room, cafe, fireplace area, etc. There are so many events going on at the campus almost every alternate week which they update on the website or their social media handles. There is free wifi on the campus. Students are even sent off campus for research purposes. There is end number of extracurricular activities going on on-campus and students can participate in them as per their interests.
Placement
As it is just my 2nd semester in Canada I do not have a confirmed knowledge on it and I do not wish to share an incomplete data which may or may not be true.
Accommodation
There is plenty of accommodation available here. Students can get rooms on campus starting from $600 per month. Apart from that students can choose to live in shared basements which cost around $450-500 per month in a room for 2. A private room costs around $700-800 per month. Condos are more expensive than basements. One needs to pay around $650-700 or more per month for a shared room. In my experience, I can say that rent is cheaper in basements which are available just for girls (no boys allowed).
Exams
My score: IELTS 7.5: Reading- 7.5, Listening- 8.5, Writing- 6.5, Speaking- 7.5. For admission to my University, getting a minimum of 7 bands overall in IELTS with no less than 6.5 is mandatory in any module. I have submitted 2 SOPs. One to my university for admission purposes and another to the VISA officer to get the VISA. In both the SOP it is mandatory to mention your previous education which has to be relevant to the program you are choosing to study in Canada. My University even asked for an LOR which has to be from the Principal of the college from where you have graduated in India. In the SOP for VISA officer, it is mandatory to mention that your stay in Canada is limited and that you will return back home after completing your studies even though you intend to stay. All these points helped me get admission and VISA quickly. The entire process requires minimum of 6 months. I did not have any interviews as the SOP which I submitted was enough for my detailed introduction.
Fees
The tuition fee for my entire program is - 24,500 CAD.
Scholarship
I haven't received any scholarship before migrating. My university do offers some scholarships to students but that is applied on the fees of the 2nd year of studies.
