What Students Say
Likes
- Students are from different countries and background. Various facilities are provided to students like free transit card, free gym membership, free tutoring to the students who are facing difficulty in some subjects.
- Course structure really intrigued me and it was covering various courses on data analytics.
Dislikes
- Some of the faculty members are rather arrogant and fail to understand the difficult situation of students. Especially, in computer science department.
- If a student is failing from half a mark, they don't even consider their case or recheck the examination. It takes $2000 to repeat a course. Retaking a course costs $2000, and occasionally the grade is reduced even further if a student requests a recheck of the test.
Required Exams for Admission
Overall, it was a good experience when it comes to studies. Most of the faculty was pretty understanding, but there were a few hiccups as some of the professors was very rigid.
Course Curriculum
I think it covered a lot of relevant aspects and it did prepared me for the job interviews but there can be few 1st level courses that can should be replaced with some courses which are not required in the curriculum. Faculty did share their industrial experience and research experience.
Faculty
Faculty is extremely professional and they are approachable. They setup office hours for the students so that they can approach them for any doubts. Some of them who left an impact on me was Micheal Wufka, Anu Gupta and Samuel Otim.
Campus Life
Douglas College offers a vibrant campus life with various clubs and organizations catering to diverse interests. Students can engage in cultural events, sports tournaments, and leadership development programs. The college provides well-equipped research facilities, libraries with extensive resources, reliable WiFi connectivity, and sports facilities to support a well-rounded student experience. But still I think campus life in India was much better than here because we have to manage our work along with the studies and then there are a lot of assignments and projects to do.
Placement
It used to be good and students could get jobs in their respective fields . But due to growing recession, it is getting hard to find the jobs. Average salary for a junior data analyst in Canada depends on the organization. But minimum is be 60,000 - 65,000 CAD.
Accommodation
Students find their own accommodation. Average rent in Vancouver for private room is 900 CAD and in Surrey 700 CAD.
Exams
Percentage in Graduation should be above 70-75%, GRE is a plus but not mandatory. IELTS: 7.5. Key points that I mentioned in my SOP to get admission in Data Analytics course is as follows: 1. I mentioned about by stream in graduation, which is computer science, and I have studied a lot subjects related to this course. 2. I worked in Ericsson for 2 yrs and 8 months and my work experience was related to databases and visualizations. 3. I mentioned about my elder brother who is a senior Data Scientist in GlenCore and I get motivated when I see him grow in this field.
Fees
Around 19000 CAD.
