What Students Say?
Likes
- It had lenient admission requirements and without GMAT so I opted this one.
- Its location on the Island and some accounting and finance professors who were great during our time in terms of academic support and pretty knowledgeable too. All in all, study wise I would say it was an average experience since most of the subjects were pretty much theoretical and lacked real life examples and experiences
Dislikes
- I was given hard time during my internship period, there were lot of approvals involved and the process I found was tormenting and stressful as I was pressurized to get WFH approval from my company where I was doing internship during COVID. Though it was work from home internship still VIU management wanted specifically wanted in written form which was ridiculous for me to talk to my company and convince them to do something out of the way.
It was an average and I am grateful that they rewarded me MBA degree at least.. Other than that their internship lectures were great but there was not actual company referrals . It was just focused on resume making, how to do networking that's all. The university should have real ties with lot of companies who can hire or at least interview maximum students.
Course Curriculum
No. I am not that happy with the university experience.. All it did was to give me MBA degree and the internship part , experience we had to struggle by ourselves.
Exams
IELTS all modules 6.5 overall not less than 7. I had scored 7789 in my IELTS. SOP and the key point was to show them my interest towards MBA.
Placement
It was not a great process, students are left on their own. There are few pep talk though but university did not have much ties with companies.. I hardly seen 3-4 companies who hired few marketing students from our batch.. but most of the people were on their own.
Internship
Yes, Blackberry
Fees
About 45000 CAD for the whole program.
Faculty
Finance Professor was really nice and I learnt a lot from him.
Campus Life
It was average, not many events for students.
Hostel
Its expensive here in Nanaimo. in 2019 it was $600 for private room with shared bathroom, now the cost is min. $750 for private room with shared facilities with others. The affordable place that students can rent is to rent property in little remote area but good public transport facilities , it will give you little relaxation in terms of high rents.
