What Students Say
Likes
- Location, reputation, people and culture. Got offered admission to Sauder at UBC and Schulich York, but still chose queens even though it’s lesser known in India. Queen’s commerce is a highly reputable program and tough to get into, not well known outside NA
- Best university in canada in terms of employment and salaries (specifically smith school of business). It’s a semi-target school for investment banks in USA, more students than UofT go and do IB. Great people, party school, extremely nice location on the lake
Dislikes
- The commerce program is secluded and feels like a bubble, not a lot of international students. Far from Toronto, and no coop program, but still good relation with top firms in Canada. Not known outside canada
Required Exams for Admission
The people have been amazing and the culture is totally unique to what other universities have. You should message Queens commerce students on LinkedIn to learn more, everyone would be happy to talk. The lake adds to the experience.
Course Curriculum
First two years in general business, next two you have the option to specialize. Updated courses with options of Data and IT based courses specific to business. Also have to do electives outside of business which gives a good array of skills
Faculty
Blair Robertson is the finance chair, he worked at investment banks in Asia and USA. He worked at Lazard and Bank of Scotland. Finance faculty is good. There are a mix of profs but different for Masters and Bachelors hence difficult to give a ratio.
Campus Life
Updated infrastructure, newly built business school and hood food options.
Placement
Best in Canada arguably, specially if you want to work in the US. (Commerce only) average pay without bonus is 65k+ highest being 130k every year out of school.
Accommodation
1-4 person rooms available with carrying facilities according to price points. 10-16k a year plan including all meals, with a lot of options. Newly built accommodation and old accommodations both are available for different prices.
Exams
IELTS 6.5 min required, I got 8. CBSE min 87 required. Need to take Mathematics and English in HS Two essays for commerce. Different prompts every month, thirty days to write. Include work or EC experience and how it impacted your life. (STAR writing method).
Fees
CAD 18,000/ year for local and CAD 57,000 for international. The local fee is highest in Canada for any domestic undergrad program. Non-commerce programs other than engineering cost around 7-10K cad.
