Course Curriculum

10

  • My course structure was a combination of practical and theatrical, yet a bit complex and hard, but supportive staff and professors made it clear and more understandable for us. During the course, we had regular classes, labs, project work, and workshops for each subject. Class schedules can be flexible, but I would say first-come first served. If you book your schedule prior to the commencement of the semester, you may arrange class timing as per your need.
  • If I talk about class size, it really depends, and some of your subjects may be common for other streams. In that case size of the class exceeded 150, while normally around 25 to 40, and particularly in my course, including me, there were a few fellow Indians I met during the course, and some of them were from the same field but different courses.

Admission Experience

  • I applied only to Flinders University because it perfectly aligned with my career goals in IT.
  • Flinders University – Admitted
  • No rejections; Flinders University was my only application.
  • I received admission from the only university I applied to. I ensured my application was thorough and met all eligibility requirements, which contributed to a successful outcome.
  • I chose Flinders University because it offered a strong IT program that aligned with my career aspirations. The university has a reputation for quality education, excellent academic support, and a welcoming environment for international students. The smooth admission process and clear communication further reinforced my decision.
  • Flinders university’s reputation resonates me the most. Additionally, my academic background was a perfect match for a university that was also an influential factor for me to choose this university instead of many others. The Admission Process was quite easy and simple and as far as eligibility criteria and accepted exams are concerned one only needs academic documents, english proficiency at a certain level depending on your university and course you might go for, and other basic criteria. There was no interview for me and I am unsure about the current scenario and overall experience was quite good. All I say is patience is the key.
  • I applied for the February 2023 intake. The entire process, including visa approval, took about five months, so patience is key I would say. First, you receive the offer letter(will take around 5 weeks I got in 21 days), which is followed by the acceptance process taking 2–3 weeks. During this time, you pay the first semester’s tuition fees and health insurance. After that, you receive the Confirmation of Enrollment (CoE) in about six weeks. You also have the option to choose or adjust your health insurance after this step.

Faculty

10

  • I would say the teaching staff were firm, well supportive, and easygoing. Throughout my master's, I always felt supported by my professors who are more friends than professors. My university wasn't providing placements or internships.
  • However, with a good relationship with a professor, you might get referred by your professor for a job and for tutoring within the scope of your professor. I do admire many professors till now, and we are still connected and approachable.

Campus Life

10

  • Flinders has a few campuses, like Bedford Park, Victoria Square, which is a city campus, and Tonsley, where I studied for two years. I mostly studied at Tonsley, which has very modern facilities and a nice environment for IT students. But my personal favorite campus was Bedford Park, surrounded by nature and up above in the hills, but a bit far to be honest.
  • The university has many clubs and student events happening throughout the year, also celebrating diversity and many other festivals and events, extracurricular activities, one-day trips, personal growth seminars, student union, and you will always get necessary support. All campuses are facilitated with up-to-date infrastructures, modern labs, workshops, personal libraries, and modern resources for personalized learning, theaters, and auditoriums. These can be found in all universities here.

Part Time Jobs

  • There are plenty of part-time job opportunities and apparently limited field jobs while studying. Part-time jobs you can secure through platforms like SEEK, Indeed, Jora, and many more, and field jobs you may get through your referrals, skills, or sometimes job ads that are advertised by the university. You may get tutoring opportunities if you maintain good relations with professors and academic staff. The only thing you need is an approachable mindset.
  • Well it really depends on the area of individual interest as here they can find jobs in different pools and sectors like restaurants, cafes, supermarkets, delivery or retail stores, healthcare, food and beverages where people normally get $26 to $40 depending on your job initially it is really hard to secure a first job unless you got prior exposure or you have great communication skills.

Placement

2

  • After completing the course, many students are able to find full-time jobs within a few months, but it depends on your skills and determination. But it’s really challenging to secure a first job here, even if it is your field or a non-field job. Otherwise, you will find a job in a snap once you get experience in any field of study. As far as field employment time is concerned, it depends on your skills.
  • Most likely, you will secure a job if you have the desired skill set, and the process will be the same to find any job here in Australia. The starting salary for IT roles is typically around 60k to 90k AUD per year, but initially, you may get around $60k- $65k annually. Most of us seek jobs on LinkedIn, SEEK, career fairs, and internships to find opportunities. Major companies are Datacom, DXE, Accenture, Deloitte, and many more, but most likely, you can secure a job in local firms; in short, there are many opportunities.

Accommodation

Off Campus
4

  • I did not personally search for accommodation, as I was saying to my brother, so I chose off-campus as it comes with flexibility, while on campus is relatively costly, but good fun with fellows, as you get to know different people with different backgrounds, and you personally grow in the same environment. The accommodation process starts with a referral first. If you get a referral, there are more chances that you‘ll get reliable accommodation easily.
  • In other cases, you need to look for agencies, Facebook marketing, and social groups where they do ads. Quickly get you through the housing price on campus will cost you 400 a week, which mostly covers everything except meals, and off-campus may vary, but on average, 400 to 600 fortnight, depending on your lifestyle. Yet again, it’s just rent. Popular locations are around the city area, as living in the city is not pocket-friendly.

Exams

  • Well, there were no entrance exams for me, and again, not sure about the current process, but the only thing I need to prove is meeting English language proficiency in my case, I got 6.5, but vary depending on your course. If your course is more likely related to the health science field, you may need IELTS 7.0 no less than 7 in each. Students may need their official transcripts, 10th, 12th results, English language proficiency, Statement of purpose(yet most important, highly recommend to share a clear purpose, aim, and future), finance report, government issued ID’s, and a few more basic legit documents. Students these days might receive an interview that is very simple and straightforward. Just know your course, purpose, field of study and everything around and related.

Fees

  • Fees may vary depending on your course and university yet again mine was 37k excluding scholarship and you may get a flexible payment plan option upon inquiring, in which you will receive plans from university itself including structure on fees and payment schedule but there’s no reminder, so you need willingness otherwise might end up not receiving final result from university and sanctioned from accessing university resources.

Scholarship

  • The university offers scholarships for international students, mainly merit-based. If you fail to maintain your GAP at a certain level, you may not receive it.
  • I received a scholarship because I maintained my merits throughout my course. If you have good merits in your previous education, you will get $1000 scholarship for each subject, so in total you may get $40000 scholarship if you maintain your scores consistently throughout your studies.
