To be a sports broadcaster you must first be a good journalist. Wingate University’s Department of Communication and Art ensures you’ll get a solid foundation in writing, reporting and editing. You’ll learn how to take an opinion and use it to write a column, and how to elicit the best quotes from a player.

Call the Shots

Whether you want to be on the sidelines or back at the station, you need to develop quick instincts and strong production skills. At the heart of this area of concentration is practical, on-the-ground experience to help you learn both. You’ll have a chance to anchor a news desk, announce plays and provide color commentary in the WUTV studio.

Behind the Scenes

Not everyone wants to be in front of the camera. Sports broadcasting students can focus on the technical aspects of photography, video and audio production. You can also hone these skills in hands-on internship opportunities at local news stations and newspapers.
