What can you do with a mechanical engineering degree?

The field of Mechanical Engineering encompasses a broad range of careers that include?design, manufacturing, operations, maintenance, and sales. These varied careers can be in support of industries as diverse as:

• product design and fabrication,
• power generation, climate control (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning),
• transportation (vehicles and infrastructure),
• and systems control.

Mechanical engineering professionals can attempt the challenging process to become licensed Professional Engineers. Mechanical Engineers are applied problem solvers, limited in their professional growth only by their personal motivation and ability. Responsibilities can range from those of an entry level designer to an R&D director, from a project engineer to plant manager, from a sales trainee to a regional manager.

Goals

• emphasize the fundamental applied roots of mechanical engineering with a heavy emphasis on practical/experiential/hands-on learning
• produce graduates that are experts at integrating technical systems, trouble-shooting problems, bringing intuitive insights to design and research teams
• produce graduates that are proficient in the use of 21st Century design, analysis, and measurement tools and software
• produce graduates with the soft-skills of (a) professionalism, (b) communication, (c) team building, (d) societal, global and ethical awareness, and (e) dedication to continuous learning
• promote an environment of undergraduate design, development and research that will also enable our faculty to grow and flourish professionally
• provide professional service to the state and region
• exhibit a willingness to assist others wherever required and contribute as part of a multi-disciplinary team
