  • Students majoring in the education of the deaf and hard of hearing (EDHH) will learn the skills to use — both verbal and manual communication — to educate persons who are deaf or hard of hearing in addition to serving and educating their families and communities. This is a growing field partially due to an increase in enrollment of special education students in traditional educational environments.
  • As an EDHH major, students will have a unique opportunity to learn in the on-site Speech, Language and Hearing Clinic to test their knowledge and skills and gain practical experience. This program engages its students in the comprehensive philosophy of human communication.
  • By studying EDHH at Missouri State, students are preparing themselves for a career as a deaf educator. Deaf educators work with both children and adults to meet the needs of the individual, such as those with cochlear implants.
  • Deaf educators often work in educational settings such as:
    • Early childhood/ early intervention
    • Preschool/ kindergarten
    • Elementary, middle, and high schools
    • Special clinics
    • Private, public and residential facilities
