Bachelor of Arts [B.A] [Psychology] From University of Incarnate Word

Students from Psychology program offered at University of the Incarnate Word select between four areas of undergraduate emphasis: General Psychology, Child and Adolescent Psychology, Addiction Prevention Specialist/Community Psychology, and Experimental Psychology. Several research opportunities are available to students who elect to participate in undergraduate scholarship. Internships in students? area of interest are available.

Career Opportunities

Psychology graduates are well-represented in social agencies and diverse business settings, including human resources, insurance, airline industry, and governmental organizations.

Students who demonstrate an aptitude in empirical research during their undergraduate work can work in a variety of research foundations and institutional settings. Graduates also work with child and adolescent populations through professional work in juvenile services, child care, child and family services, adoptions, education, medicine, and mental health. Students interested in graduate work can pursue advanced training in several areas.

Students with high GPAs, good letters of recommendation, and solid GRE scores are competitive for graduate school programs in psychology, counseling, and social work. Students who gain research experiences and complete methodology courses are competitive for research-oriented and clinical graduate programs. Majors are well-represented in law schools and medical schools. In order to compete for law or medical school programs, students must complete appropriate prelaw or pre-medicine curricula in addition to their Psychology major requirements.
