Individual major programs are coordinated with the students? particular interests.? In consultation with the advisor, each student plans a coherent program of courses to meet the requirements for the major.? Normally, students? programs are submitted for approval no later than the beginning of their junior year.

Our undergraduate programs and Ph.D. program in Comparative Literature train students to become inventive, thoughtful, strident, and uncompromising readers. Our faculty work closely with students, giving to them the single thing which the imperatives of speed reading and ready-made answers, within and outside of the university, cannot stop laying claim to?time.

Undergraduate students in our department gain a new sense of the world, as they read and study film and architecture, literature and philosophy, religion and poetics, human rights and critical theory, and more.

Students in our Ph.D. program in Comparative Literature receive training in literary history and theory, as they are trained to practice literary comparativism in a multilingual, interdisciplinary, and multi-medial frame, and in relation to social forms and practices.
