Program Highlights

The university's new science building, Parmer Hall, has state-of-the-art classrooms, equipment, teaching and research laboratories, and a human cadaver available to undergraduates.

The environmental science major is interdisciplinary. Students complete required courses in biology, chemistry, physics and computer programming. Two mathematics courses are strongly recommended, and a rich variety of other courses are available, including geology, ecology, zoology and botany.

This major hones computation and statistical skills for analyzing information and oral and writing skills for effective?communication. It also provides?students with an understanding of the interplay between?environmental issues?and social, political and business issues.

Environmental science students must complete an internship or independent research project in the field. Past students have interned at?the Brookfield Zoo, Browning Ferris Industries, Clarke Mosquito, Waste Management, Illinois Department of Natural Resources, and a wide range of other organizations.

Environmental science graduates find career opportunities in natural resources, energy, regulatory compliance and many other areas.?They?work both in the public and private sectors.?
