When students pursue BFA in Textiles, they will explore the creative issues and processes unique to textiles and develop their personal ideas and aesthetics. Students will focus on the function of cloth in traditional and non-traditional applications.
The BFA is a professional degree with concentrated areas of specialization, so students will take more art courses than they would in a BA program. At UMass Dartmouth, they also have the advantages of a university education where they can diversify their studies and expand their career opportunities.
As a textiles major, students will immerse themseleves in the study of the structure, color, and patterning of cloth through imagery development, dyeing, repeat pattern design, textile construction, and surface embellishment.
They will study textile history and current issues such as sustainability in textiles. They will develop a design portfolio for the textile industry, and create a body of work for exhibition.
