Our innovative 30-credit Master of Science (MS) in is a flexible, modular program that provides students with the mix of skills and area specializations they need to thrive in today’s rapidly changing field of international affairs.

The MS is designed for students who already have at least three to five years of post-university professional experience in international affairs. The self-designed curriculum allows students to create a personalized path of study and gain the specific tools and experience required to advance their careers in research, advocacy, and practice. The modular structure of the MS allows students to develop unique combinations of skills and substantive knowledge that will set them apart from their peers and position them for success at the dynamic forefront of the international affairs field.

Students can pursue the degree on a full-time or part-time basis.

MODULES

The MS program modules draw from ’s university-wide programs in fields such as social research, design, and media. Students can build a unique portfolio of expertise by combining modules such as Humanitarianism with Geographic Information Systems, Global Advocacy with Media Production, Cities and Sustainable Development with Community and Participatory Development, Development Policy with Economic Analysis, or innumerable other combinations. Students can also design their own modules in consultation with advisers.

Each student selects one module from each of the two categories: one Subject module and one Critical Analytics and Tools module.

Subject Modules

The MS Subject Modules are designed to give students in-depth, substantive knowledge of a particular area of professional interest. Students may also design their own Subject Module. Subject areas include Migration and Refugees, Media Advocacy, Global Food Systems, Gender in International Affairs, and Poverty, Inequality, and Social Justice, among others. Courses that comprise subject areas are drawn from across the International Affairs program and the university at large.

Critical Tools and Analytics Modules

The MS Critical Tools and Analytics Modules provide students with distinct sets of skills that prepare them for specific professional careers. Students can advance their skills in GIS mapping, media production, data analytics, design, participation, policy analysis, monitoring and evaluation, and many other areas.
