What you'll study
You'll study historical geology, minerals and rocks, paleontology, structural geology, and field geology. You'll be encouraged to complete a minor and/or concentrations in chemistry, physics, environmental geology, mathematics, or computer science. And you'll take required general studies courses.
Field work and research opportunities
Field trips are common and working in the field is encouraged. Many students assist faculty members with research projects and frequently receive credit when research is published. Students choosing the education degree will have student teaching requirements.
Employment outlook
Employment is expected to grow faster than average and will be exceptionally good for geoscientists with master's degrees. Most new jobs will be in management, scientific and technical consulting services as more geoscientists are hired as consultants.
