- The Integrated Science major prepares students to teach in junior and senior high schools (grades 7-12). This four-year program affords all majors the opportunity to teach the four science disciplines (biology, earth science, chemistry, and physics) upon graduation. Within this degree, majors select one science area to be their specialty and they are provided a broad range of exposure to the other three scientific disciplines. The program provides theoretical and practical knowledge and skills in the areas of science, learning, and science teaching that is consistent with the National Science Teaching Standards, especially in the areas of inquiry, science-society-technology, and evolution.
- The Integrated Science major requires a series of courses in the major science area of student's choice as well as a solid background in the other science areas.
- This program also requires students to take classes within the Global Miami Plan for Liberal Education. Through the plan's foundation courses, students will hone skills such as thinking critically, understanding contexts, reflecting and acting, and engaging with other learners. These courses are in the broad discipline areas of English composition, fine arts, humanities, social science, world cultures, natural science, formal reasoning, and in the social foundations of education. The principles and content of the foundation are the basis for the professional education sequence and content specialization.
