Miami’s M.S. Stat. program is designed to give students a solid foundation in applied and theoretical statistics, enabling them to prepare for careers as statisticians in industry, business, or teaching or for subsequent doctoral study. Special features of the program include the opportunity to participate in data analysis projects and to combine coursework in Statistics with study in related fields. In addition, with proper planning, undergraduate students can pursue the M.S. Stat. as part of the university's combined bachelor's/master's degree program.
The three learning outcomes for the M.S. Statistics degree is:
- Students shall be able to analyze and interpret data from real-world problems critically using programming skills and a broad range of statistical models and methods.
- Students shall demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the mathematical basis and theoretical foundations of statistics.
- Students shall be able to effectively and independently communicate, both orally and in written form, the results of statistical analyses.

Typically, 16 years of schooling with four years of full-time study at the university level, culminating with the award of a first or second degree. Applicants must submit their academic records/transcripts at the time of application. The Graduate School accepts unofficial transcripts at the time of application and does not require third-party credential evaluations.

- International students hailing from non-English speaking countries must submit proof of English proficiency. Students may provide score reports of TOEFL/IELTS/… or any equivalent test with at least a minimum score as per program guidelines to prove English proficiency.
- In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Miami is accepting the Duolingo English Test for the 2021-2022 application cycle as an alternative to the TOEFL, IELTS, or PTE test.
