- Every year, graduate faculty and researchers conduct advanced studies in metals and ceramics, biomaterials, electronic materials, polymeric materials, alloys, nanomaterials, plasma spray, vibration attenuation, and advanced synthesis and processing techniques.
- The Master of Science (MSc) in Materials Science and Engineering is available in either a thesis or a non-thesis program.

- The program is available in both a thesis and a non-thesis option. Thesis students complete a minimum of 24 semester credit hours of course work, plus six-semester credits of Master’s Thesis Research, as well as a Graduate Seminar. Non-thesis students shall complete a minimum of 27-semester credits of graduate course work, one semester of Graduate Seminar, and a three-credit graduate project. All students are required to pass a comprehensive final examination.

- Statement of Purpose:
- The statement can be in essay form, single spaced, 12 pt. font, one page, or in video form (not exceeding 3 minutes).
- If submitting a video, upload it to YouTube with privacy settings as 'public' or 'unlisted,' and provide the essay or video link via email.
- Official Transcripts:
- Request official transcripts (official records of courses taken and grades achieved) from all previously attended colleges and universities.
- Proof of Degree:
- Submit a copy of your diploma.
- If you have not yet received your diploma, provide a letter from your advisor or program leadership detailing your major and expected graduation date.
- If the language of instruction was not English, include original-language copies of transcripts and diplomas with translations.
- Official Test Scores (If applicable):
- If required, arrange for English Proficiency and/or GMAT/GRE exam scores to be released to FIU. Use FIU's institutional code 5206.
