As budgets are tightening, prisons are closing and communities are reexamining their criminal justice practices, restorative justice and evidence-based practice are emerging as critical to the future of the field.?

Restorative justice focuses on repairing the harm that was done as a result of a crime or delinquent act. Instead of the state simply punishing an offender, the offender is held directly accountable to the victim and the larger community and is themselves healed or repaired as a part of the justice process.?

In Pennsylvania a "Balanced and Restorative Justice" approach is written into the juvenile code, and includes three goals that must remain in balance:?

A degree in criminal justice from Seton Hill will prepare you to work in any of the traditional fields of criminal justice as well as restorative justice and other evidence-based programs (such as victim offender mediation and juvenile probation in the state of Pennsylvania).
