Courses provide a solid theoretical framework along with an understanding of measurements, data analysis techniques, and numerical modeling. Many courses contain a lab component that illustrates measurement techniques. Additionally, professors incorporate measurements they have conducted as part of their research activities into courses. The use of computer-based data analysis techniques is an integral part of the undergraduate program, including the use of the latest technology. Students also learn to interpret model output and write their own simple forecast models. Additionally, they have the opportunity to run complex forecasting models, similar to the models run by the National Weather Service, on high-performance computer cluster in the Atmospheric Science department.
