This program of study is for students desiring licensure as an art teacher in a K-12 setting. Students are exposed to both the philosophy and methodology of art education and are provided meaningful experience in observations and internships in city and suburban schools. In addition, students are involved in a wide range of studio experiences and develop knowledge of art history. The completion of the teaching degree qualifies students for an Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with an endorsement for teaching Visual Arts for grades K-12. Licensure requires successful completion of the Illinois Licensure Tests of Academic Proficiency (TAP) or the equivalent, the Visual Arts Content Area Test, and the edTPA portfolio. Students with a B.A. or B.S. degree from a regionally accredited college or university are candidates for the post-baccalaureate licensure program or for the Master of Arts in Teaching through the College of Education.
