A student who chooses the Bachelor of Music degree program at The University of Vermont is typically preparing to become a career musician such as a performer in an orchestra, band, chamber ensemble, or jazz group; as a soloist; or perhaps as a composer or music theorist. Students choose the B.Mus. because it allows them to concentrate on achieving these goals through concentrated hands-on work with their craft.

What is the difference between a B.Mus. degree and a B.A. degree in music?

A Bachelor of Music is a professional degree that requires more credit hours in music. B.Mus. students must complete the same general distribution requirements of the B.A. Because of the additional music courses required, B.Mus. students are not required to pursue a minor.
