Scholarship Received
Course Curriculum
- I am the only indian student in my bachelor class, and around 15-20 classes have more than 30+ people in class, and some courses are too tough, and some are easy. On average, assignments are too tough sometimes on an average.
- But the most positive thing is that you will for sure learn so many new things every day in classes.
- And the negative aspects are more assignments and a hectic schedule sometimes. I have registered for 18 credits, so classes are in odd timings too, like morning at 8 AM and night at 7 PM.
Admission Experience
- I applied only for RIT as I came as a transfer student. I have limited options, and I have also decided to come in last minute, so only RIT has its applications open for transfer. So, I applied and got RIT. And it took me 30-45 days to complete the whole process. Also, I think my resume is somewhat strong for a bachelor's at that time, so I got it. Also, I came to VIT Vellore.
- As mentioned, I applied only for RIT and was accepted into it. So I have no choice, so I came here, but the admission process is very, very slow to make their decision. It took over 3 weeks, and I got an average scholarship, not too high or too low. Also, I gave the TOEFL test, and the minimum score should be 80+ for them to accept and take; if not, they will accept in some cases and give you an English course here at RIT, which is the worst thing one can do. The overall admission process is Average, and the process is very slow.
- I applied for Fall'24 intake as I ama transfer student, and mine is last last-minute decision. I applied on june last week and got my decision by July 3rd. And I have my visa on August 1st week and flight to Rochester in August 3rd week. I requested them so many times to expedite the process, as I can go to the visa office and book my visa slot. They made my decision fast for the reason I have stressed them.
Faculty
- We will have good interaction with faculty because, as mentioned before, we have fewer students in classes and. their teaching methodology is so good and focuses on more practical aspects rather than just teaching. Yes, they are teaching and preparing me sufficiently to get a job in my field.
- I have a part-time job on campus in dining and as a TA. RIT has more part-time jobs for students, and one can get a part-time job easily. I admire all faculty members and their teaching style, and their efforts make them stand out.
Campus Life
- I think 3 campuses, one in the USA and other in Dubai and other in Croatia. My campus has everything: a big and wonderful library, and good gym, and all.
- Halloween and Christmas may be the major festivals, and they celebrate indian festivals like Diwali and Dussehra, and there are cultural events sometimes and hockey matches as sports, and they are the best ones to see.
Part Time Jobs
- 20 hours is the max one can do for part-time, and there are multiple options, and RIT is famous for part-time; all people/students will get it easily, and have multiple options for students $15.5/hour is the wage, and you could easily find RA/TA/DA/SI position, even a notetaker. But you should apply it soon, as they will fill fast sometimes. So, you should be fast.
- $15.5/hour and easy to find, just email them your schedule to get. For some jobs, you need to attend interviews. there are many jobs you can apply most of them and most of the people gets dining jobs as part-time which is not bad also we have have food there in some dining and they will also give meal pass if you dont like to have food there for every hour $2 meal pass and you should not excced 20 hours in a week and 6hours straight work.
Placement
- It depends on the student and how talented they are. Also you know that job market is worse and the avg salary would be $75,000 may be as per I guess and nowadays its hard to find jobs off-campus and I know very less people here some of them are placed in rochester itself for co-op and full-time and some are still searching mostly it depends on the program they do some program people get placed easily like accounting and all. For computers, it's hard now.
Accommodation
- I found my accommodation off-campus, and I found it through a WhatsApp group. My monthly rent is $550, not much facilities, just a hall and kitchen bathroom. Not many challenges, I easily found it. It is 4 miles from my uni, and there is a bus every 30 mins which the university provides. Just look on the internet or join some random RIT WhatsApp groups, and you can easily find accommodations near RIT.
Exams
- As I came for bachelors and that too transfer, I have a requirement to complete or clear only TOEFL, and I did that and got 100/120, and I got waived from basic English courses. For master's, GRE and TOEFL are required to apply for RIT, and I don't know about SOP, LOR, CV, but seniors told me it's good to have all those and help in the admission and scholarship process.
Fees
- I am paying around $20000 per semester, and I sat off-campus, and 12-18 credits is the same fee for bachelors. And per credit is around $2600, I guess, so I don't know about master's. Fees are charged semester-wise.
- My monthly expenses come to around $900-$1000. Rent is $550, and electricity is around $30, and all other expenses like food and exc are rest and transportation is free for my location as RIT provides bus service.
Scholarship
- I got an international fund scholarship, and I don't think there is any eligibility criteria for that. And I got $15000 per year, and my batchmate received $20000 may be that's because her academics are good, I don't know why.
- As I know, everybody receives some amount of scholarship, and for bachelor's students it is an amount, and for master's students it is in %, like 30-50% of their fee. So, it may depend on your previous academics and the exam scores may be.
