Colleges Where I Was Accepted
Reason for choosing my college
- The Current University aligned with my financial status, and I realized that I should first get into the program and build my skills from there, and it worked out well for me. I got a full-time job at an R1 Flagship University as a researcher.
- Note: I highly encourage others to seek quality and environmental exposure during the master's program, as it worked out for me doesn't mean it will work for all, as I strongly believe the time, context, prior research experience, and finally, money, if you are from a Typical middle-class agricultural background
Colleges Where I Was Rejected
Reason for Rejection
- My graduate application and GRE scores were 289/360. The admissions committee didn't explain the reasons, but to my current knowledge, it's my guess. also, I personally felt delays while preparing for my Study abroad plans so always plan in advance, do a ton of work, shortlist your research programs as early as possible, and start emailing the departments and professors, followed by a follow-up email to show your continued interest in their work.

Tips to enhance your application
- First, do deep research about the program and contact the professor beforehand by thoroughly learning about their area of study and expertise. Then, email why you want to join their program, explain with a good essay, and include your previous experience.
Admission Experience
- I chose the USA because of its economy and the opportunities for meritocracy. There is no caste and reservation system for allocating jobs; instead, they are based on your skills and work experience. Overall, it was a great experience. It was my first home after living in India, and it gave me a platform to further enhance my career in the USA.
Class Schedule
7
- 4 depends on professor 25-30 students were in the first-year courses, and in the second year, I changed to the Department of Biological Sciences. I am the only Indian from my batch who worked at Arkansas Biosciences Institute during my program. My schedule was packed at that time weekly: 4 days of classes and 20 hours of research work at ABI, followed by assignments, especially statistics coursework (Rstudio for regression analysis), used to take time.
Faculty
8
- 1:4 I like 2 Faculty for their enormous support and encouragement. Yes, I earned their reference by working with Three research professors during my program, and those references added weight and helped me get my current full-time Job Thanks to DR. Brown, TINA GRAY TEAGUE, and KIM for being my references.
Campus Life
7
- I could remember, but there were many. It has a big library, a recreation center, and a student health care center. There are many fests, and international programs hold many of them. Diwali events, Ag-day. There are lots of activities each semester, including football, Tennis, Basketball, Indoor games, the Graduate Students Club, and the IP club, but I attended only a few because of my class schedules.
Part Time Jobs
- Most of our Indian students get Graduate Assistant Positions once they arrive on campus, but there is a lot of competition among our peers if you are a computer science graduate. But a Master's in Biology (Life science ) like me has to work in a Thesis program to have that kind of research exposure, and the publications also impact your future job/PHD opportunities.
- I was a research assistant; I got paid $16/hr. Other on-campus jobs include Graduate Research Assistant, Tutoring, and cafeteria work. All are Official on-campus Jobs with a tax pay. you are only allowed to work 20 hours per week and sometimes 28 hours after your graduation in a summer research project
Placement
3
- I and the other girl from my department got the job within the first 6 months. As a researcher, I make around 55k/yr with my master's experience; if it's an industry job, it would be more. We found jobs on our own in my field (Life sciences), and there were no consultants to support us. It was a brutal struggle, but I made it through.
