Colleges Where I Was Accepted
Reason for choosing my college
- Low tuition fees and Cost of living, Scholarships, STEM and OPT Considerations, Smaller CLass Sizes and support and also ease of admissions ASU is generally more affordable than Texas State. And overall, ASU felt like a better option for masters.
Colleges Where I Was Rejected
Reason for Rejection
- NJIT had a very high tuition fee and cost of living and a high foreign population of students, so it would be hard to get a job on campus, and the tuition fee was 3 times more compared to that of ASU and Texas State University.

LOR
Tips to enhance your application
- Have a good SOP, get at least 3 LORs from your university; if you had a job, get one from your manager too. The university sees if you had already taken specific classes in your Undergrad that are a requirement for masters to give an admit, so make sure Memo are clearly uploaded with all the class informations and grades; only apply to the Degrees which are related to your Undergraduation.
Admission Experience
- I chose Arkansas State University for its affordability, strong academic programs and welcoming environment for international students from the international student organization on campus. The US was my preferred destination due to its globally recognized education system and career opportunities, especially in STEM fields.
Class Schedule
8
- Depending on how many classes you take, the number of classes in a week might change, but generally each class only has one class in the week and that class lasts for 3 hours. The average strength depends on the semester and the class itself. I've been in a class with 5 people for the semester and 30 people for the semester; the average would be around 15. In my course there were around 10-12 Indians. If you get a job on campus, you'd need to go to campus everyday, if not only for classes.
Faculty
9
- The faculty is very friendly; the advisors are always an email away to help you. The International Student Organization and DSO of the university is probably one of the best in any university. They really care about the international students and join in for celebrations of our festivals and cultures.
Campus Life
9
- International students would have a lot of fun activities planned for their 1st month. The gym, library and lawn are very close to each other, where most events are conducted. Outside the university, it's a Dry country so no alcohol in the town except for the restaurants. There is only one club in town that's open from Thursday through Sunday for those who want to go clubbing every day; that's not an option.
Part Time Jobs
- On campus part time jobs are the best options. working as a student workers under a professor pays 11$ an our for 20 hours a week, Working at the cafeteria at Sodexo can pay upto 13$-15$ an hour and working as a Graduate Assistant will waive off 40%of the international student tution fee and also pay you around 1000$ a month.
- For departments like Civil and Mechanical, there are a lot of good placement opportunities since Arkansas has a good construction and manufacturing economy. For IT professionals, there are very minimal opportunities on campus. Usually there are career fairs after every semester but very few students get hired on the spot but a lot of the others get a call back for interviews and more rounds.
Placement
6
- My course is Engineering Management, so after completing my course I had many options to either get into project management in any field like IT or construction or also, at the same time, use my previous experience as a software professional and leverage that into getting a job, which I finally ended up doing.
Accommodation
Off Campus
10
- Most Indian students prefer to live on campus at ASU; it's at a walkable distance from the classes, cafeteria, Univeristy Gym and university bank. So staying on campus (Village Apartments) is the best choice for the Students, and it is very reasonable; it only costs around $450 for one bedroom with no additional charges for WIFI, gas or water
