- Large campus ( Our campus is very big and it is well connected with the campus bus routes.) there are three campuses for UNH, One is In Durham(Main campus), 2nd is in manchester and 3rd one is in Concord Durham campus is the main campus and most of the courses will be offered here except information technology, biotechnology and cybersecurity (These courses will be offered in UNH manchester) and coming to UNH-Concord campus, here they will offer you the LAW courses. Note: These three campuses are far from each other so even UNH won't run any bus routes between three campuses, so if some people who are thinking that we can go from UNH manchester to UNH Durham absolutely no there is no public connectivity you need to figure it out on your own.
- Courses: University offers wide variety of courses with different specialisations, moreover most of the professors offer RA's(In the US, professors are usually involved in a lot of research work, and since they can’t handle everything on their own, they hire students to help out as research assistants. You don’t necessarily need to have all the knowledge beforehand, as long as you’re curious and willing to learn, you can still be a great fit.)if you have any interest in your masters field you can contact professor, if they have any opening position for any research assistantship he will let you know about the procedure of hiring for the position. Most of the professors will have atleast one RA's so my suggestion is to mail professor so you can get a position for RA and here come the fun part if you got selected for RA they will wave off your semester fee or in some cases they will wave off your entire course fee.
- Great community: In one sentence UNH is welcoming community, as i am an international student i was struggled initially with cultural change but later i met great people and they made me feel like I am in my second home ( Note: you can find lot of good communities in university, where I am from india we do have one community called DSA(Desi Students Association) we were part of it and we used to celebrate every festival together in the university and even university is also welcoming for such kind of events.)
Dislikes
- I feel this university is bit expensive depends on your course as I did my masters in business analytics i paid roughly 45000 usd per year, for average middle class indian paying 45000 usd is expensive
- if you are new to US and you don't have friends in US, it is very difficult for you for first time to reach the campus, nearest international airport is boston so from boston to the campus if you book a cab it will costs you more than 100 dollars for one way but you can take bus from airport(C&J bus) then you should get down at portsmouth or Dover( these two places are nearest places where you can find bus terminals from there you have to take a cab. if you follow this procedure you can save 50 dollars) but you can choose one more option our campus has Amtrak connectivity you can take train from boston to UNH directly it might cost you like 25 dollars(I would not recommend for new students).
- Housing: you can find good places near to the campus but you don't have too many options and moreover you won't find too many indians so it is very difficult for you to find a room which is affordable.
Course Curriculum
- Coming to the difficulty, UNH has good research level education where people feel the course is tough and if you want a practical example when i was enrolled in my course we were like 12-15 indians and after 1st semester we were 5 the rest of the students felt hard and left the college. Most of the course is practical.
- Most positive about my course will be you can learn a top notch skills, but if i come to negative part my course is 1 year, so i have to complete 36 credits in one year is very difficult(Typical masters is 30 credits for 2 years but here completely different).
- usually if you take 3 courses in a term then you would have like weekly one class per each subject and in some terms you might have two classes in single day and timings will be depends on the course and the professor.
- There will be like 15-25 per class
- Initially we were 15 but only 6 indians were able to complete the course.
Admission Experience
-
University of New Hampshire -Admitted
Northeastern University - Admitted
UMass - Admitted
Florida Atlantic University- Admitted
California State University-Waitlisted ( they do offer limited seats for international students so they told me that they are full they suggested me to take same course for spring intake)
George mason university-Admitted
FSU- Rejected ( they rejected me because my bachelors is different from what i am about to pursue my masters, they need students who are doing same course in masters and bachelors) - Why did you choose this particular college over the others you were accepted into? What factors influenced your decision? – Ans: Actually I got an opportunity at university incubation center as a business analyst where they offered me 8000 dollars per semester.
- Could you describe the admission process of your college? What steps were involved from application to acceptance? – Ans: Actually I got to know about this university because of study abroad fair where I met representatives form university of New Hampshire and they gave me a application wavier.
- I have applied through their online portal where i have submitted all the required documents( previous academic transcripts, resume, Work experience Documents, research papers) and submitted my GRE Score and English test score and i got decision in like 4 weeks later I was looking for any research opportunities and found that university incubation center is looking for business analyst intern and i have applied for that with in couple of days i got a interview call later they offered me business analyst intern position.
- What are the eligibility criteria for admission to your college? Please mention the accepted exams (e.g., SAT, GMAT, IELTS) and the minimum scores required for each? – Ans: It varies from program to program, for my program GRE is mandatory where you should have GRE of 300 or above and you should have good english proficiency score.
- I have applied for Fall intake and for my application decision previous academics and relevant work experience might impacted the decision.
- For entire application process it took roughly 50-60 days
- I have applied in in feb 2023 and i got my decision in april where you have to send official GRE and IELTS score to the university and they will go through it and verify all the details.
Faculty
- I am not sure about the faculty to student ratio but i can tell you that for every 10-12 students there will be a faculty and it does not influence education because each individual have individual assignments questions and they have to answer it accordingly.
- Most of the USA universities will follow the same method of education, They just teach the concepts and tell you how to apply to real world and assignment will be based on real world problem and at UNH each individual will have individual question so there is no scope of copying assignment or exam. You will have like 8 assignments for each subject and the weightage of the assignments will be 80 percent and rest will be mid exams and final exam.
- To pass the subject you must score 80 percent in each subject and you must have 3.0 gpa out of 4.0 to get a masters degree.
- Faculty will help you to get any research based part time if they have one if not you can ask them that you need guidance to get a internship or full time job. definitely they will guide you.
- Every professor is friendly and have exceptional knowledge but if you ask me to pick one, I will go with professor gorkem turgut (we used to call him G T) his level of knowledge is exceptional and we were learnt a lot he taught us Big data where how we have to build machine learning algorithms and i would say i changed my mind to purse my career towards AI/ML because of him.
Campus Life
-
UNH have 3 campuses
UNH-Durham(Main campus)
UNH-Manchester
UNH-Concord -
I have studies in main campus so we do have everything like library, sports complex, Hospital, Restaurants, Shopping marts everything.
- There will be a event every day and you can't judge weather the event is major or not, each branch will celebrate different events for example international office celebrates atleast 1 event every month and their moto is to international students should not feel alone.
- coming to clubs you can find number of clubs like gaming club, guitar club, asian club, desi club ect.
Part Time Jobs
- I don't have exact number but i can tell you that each professor have 1 RA/TA atleast.
- Pay may be varied for some cases your entire sem fee will be waved off in some cases typically for RA's they will pay you roughly 19-24 usd/hr.
- You can find dining jobs where the pay would be 12-14 usd/ hr and there are other jobs like parking enforcement officer, Campus tour guide, Recreation manager and there are other departments as well.
- You will be allowed only 20 hr/week(but you can work 40 hr/week in summer breaks)
- i would say it is moderate to get a on campus job.
- I would go with least with 12 per hour, you must contact the incharge of the department or else you can apply through Handshake portal, the hiring process is simple you must apply attaching with your resume and they will take an interview, you don't need any skill but you must learn and curious about the work(At UNH getting on campus job is way easier in fun then don't be worried about on campus jobs).
Placement
- I would say 90 percent will secure jobs in 6 months and i saw students who proposed their business idea and got funding from the UNH (Now the US market is not that great but i saw people getting jobs).
- Salary would vary based on previous experience and the role you are aiming for, I would say it would be like 40000-100000 usd/ year.
- My close friend got job as commercial business analyst at WIN Waste innovation and other friend got as a Data Scientist at LTImindtree
- Main companies would be Fidelity, Win waste innovations, Lonza, mass general brigham etc.
Accommodation
- I found my accommodation in facebook marketplace but i would suggest to check in websites like Zillow and other property listing sites(if you are single and search for shared room you must check in sulekha.com but if you are group of people and looking for new apartment where you want to live there like 1 year then you must check the facebook marketplace or Zillow)
- My monthly rent was little expensive. It was like 656 dollars per month where my internet, water and sewage bill is included(excluding Electricity).
- Main challenge will be people wont give you lease if you don't have leasing history(people don't know what is leasing history I will explain you simple way as we do have credit score in india and here you will have leasing score on your name, where it will impact the decision weather should they give you approval for lease or not, as we are international students we don't have such score then you will not have more options), My suggestion would be contact with the international office and ask them any leads for nearest properties or property management companies where they are ready to provide you lease without leasing history
- My accommodation is not that far it like 5 min drive from university or 20 min walk.
- most of the indians will prefer staying outside because it is affordable compared to the on campus accommodation
Exams
- GRE and any one of English Proficiency test is mandatory
- Documents – 3 LOR's, Resume, Statement of purpose, Cover letter, Resume, Academic transcripts, Experience letter(if you have any)
-
There is no interview part for the admission but if you are interested in any of the RA or any of the on campus job then you would be interviewed, the interview process will be simple where you will be interviewed based on your resume
Fees
-
Tuition fee: 38000-39000 (varies from course to course)
Insurance:5500-6000(insurance is mandatory you cannot opt out this)

At UNH you need to pay semester-wise and if you ask me roughly it would be around 3000 usd/credit.
-
If you want a individual room and everything then it would go up to1500-1700 usd/month
Scholarship
- Yes i have received the scholarship worth of 10000 usd for my entire course (usually if your academics are good then you will get it)
-
Yes they have received scholarships varying from 2000-10000 usd
-
I am not sure about how but if you have good academics then i would say then there will be a chance of getting scholarship
