Course Curriculum

8

  • The Data Science and Analytics program at GVSU has a well-balanced academic
framework that combines theoretical and hands-on learning.

  • The program offers amoderate-to-challenging pace and includes big data, machine learning, and visualization.

  • Benefits include real-world projects, flexible electives, and helpful instructors. However,
students who are unfamiliar with programming or analytics may find the course to be
    too fast-paced.

Admission Experience

  • I only applied to 4
    1. Kent State University - Shortlisted
    2. Rowan University - Shortlisted
    3. University of Alabama at Birmingham - Shortlisted
    4. Grand Valley State University - Admitted

  • I got confirmed admissions from all four of them, but then I decided to go with GVSU because of their fees structure, it wasn’t that much on me and course curriculum was really great plus I was able to get Graduate Research Assistantship and Resident Assistant position and GA position helps you give relief on your fees and RA position gives you free housing and meals.

  • Intake - Winter 2023; I just wanted to come here because I had 2 years of experience and there were less people who were coming in Winter semester so it helped me made an impression with my professors because of less student

  • Admission Process was roughly around 3 months
    June 2022 - I Applied to GVSU
Aug 2022 (End Week) - Got acceptance
    Sept 2022 (First week) - Got i20

    of students are Indian.

Faculty

10

  • Faculty to Student Ratio: 1:15, which I feel is good, I was able to get personal 1:1 meeting with all my faculty members and their insights were always valuable.
  • Teaching Methodology: There teaching methodologies Is different, they will go through slides as usual, but their homework’s and project is different you really need to work through it.
  • Job Preparation: Faculty always gives you insights if you ask them, you always need to ask them, they will not come to you.
  • Faculty support for job opportunities: They always support you, if they have any previous students in the company, they always connect you if you are a good student.
  • Admired Faculty Members: I have lot of faculty members with whom I still have connection, with whom I am still doing research projects, I can’t name them but they are really great.

Accommodation

Off Campus
10

  • I opted for On-Campus

  • I find my accommodation through- GVSU had their own platform called myHousing in which you can find your housing according to your financial needs.

  • Monthly rent was 600$ and everything was included in the rent and utilities bill too.

Exams

  • Exams that are required for admission to my university - IELTS (Minimum band of 6.5)
  • The documents are necessary to complete the admission process at your university - SOP, LOR (3), Resume, IELTS, Valid Passport, Valid Finance Statements (After getting the admission letter)
  • No there was no interview process at my time.

Fees

  • My course was 36 credits and every semester you need to have 9 credits.
    1st Semester (Winter 2023) - $6,858 (Fees) + $2,200 (Housing)
    2nd Semester (Fall 2023) - $7,182 (Fees) + $2,510 (Housing)
    3rd Semester (Winter 2024) - $7,182 (Fees) + $2,510 (Housing)
    4th Semester (Fall 2024) - $7,182 (Fees) + $2,510 (Housing)
The fees charged at GVSU is semester-wise.
  • My monthly expenses were around 500-600 $ because the transportation is free in Grand Rapids you just need to show the student ID, and I used to work in part time so there I used to get free meals so it was much of pain for me, and Only rent I had to pay.

Scholarship

  • Yes I did receive the scholarship, the eligibility criteria was to get 3.5+ GPA in your 1 semester, So for first semester I had to pay the full fees but then from 2nd semester i.e. fall 2023 I got Graduate Assistantship position which waives off your full fees for that semester and also gives you the stipend and I continued till the end of my graduation, So technically I paid fees only in my first semester.
and same with my housing I got Resident Assistant position, which gives you free housing and meal and it continue till end of my graduation.
Both the positions I got in Fall 2023 and ended up on Dec 14, 2024.

  • Yes my batchmates did received scholarships or other forms of financial aid

  • The no. of students on average receive scholarships each year as It depends I think 70-80% of the people have GA (Half or Full) and it is semester based on the performance they renew it.
