Course Curriculum

4

  • Difficulty level of your course curriculum: Few courses just have a theory but most of the courses have many practical lessons.
  • The positive and negative aspects of your course:
    • Many practical things you have to learn by yourself by watching YouTube and other references but if you're stuck somewhere, the professor or TA of that subject will help you and clear your doubts.

Admission Experience

  • Universities I applied to:

    • Arizona State University - Rejected ( I applied in the first week of March for Fall 2023 admission, which might have been considered late. My IELTS score wasn't very strong, but I had relevant work experience and had completed quality projects that could have strengthened my application. However, applying late might have impacted my chances.)

    • Cleveland State University - Shortlisted

    • University of Nevada, Reno - Admitted

  • This is public university and have a good research programs that's why I choose this university. The eligibility criteria is you need at least 6 Band in IELTS, GRE is not required for many program.

  • For application and admission you just need to apply with 3 LOR, SOP and should send transcript from your university and once you get the offer you have to apply for I20 and provide financial proof. I didn't faced any challenges for admission, it was smooth.

  • I applied for the Fall 2023 intake because it had a good reviews about Research program as well as the availability of courses relevant to my career goals.I submitted my application in the first week of March 2023. The admission process took around 1-2 weeks. I received my decision by the end of March. Applying late might have affected my chances.

Class Schedule

4

  • Mostly for a week, you will have classes on 2-3 days for 2-3 hours each day.
  • Each class have 15 students, but few classes have around 30-40 students.
  • For my intake in fall 2023, we have 4 people but now the number is increasing.

Faculty

4

  • The faculty-to-student ratio is 1 teacher and 1 TA for 15 students.
  • The teaching methodology of your faculty members is the worst and the course content and teaching approach is not sufficient to prepare you for securing a job in your field—not even 10%. We have to do all those things on our own.
  • No one will help with a part-time or full-time job. They don't even give references.
  • Prof. Arash Barfar has good knowledge and teaching skills.

Campus Life

8

  • The university regularly hosts exciting events like Homecoming Week, cultural festivals, and career fairs.
I enjoyed being part of student clubs, especially the Cybersecurity Club, which helped me grow both personally and professionally.
  • Facilities are available on campus:
1.The Mathewson-IGT Knowledge Center for study and research
    2. The E.L. Wiegand Fitness Center for sports and wellness
    3. Student Health Center providing medical care and counseling services

Part Time Jobs

  • For Indians its very difficult to get Teaching Assistant (TA), Research Assistant (RA), or Departmental Assistant (DA) positions but students have good projects and grade so it make little easy to get the TA and RA. Pay range is $22/HR for each position. Their are many on campus job available but you have to go each department and find or ask for a job, We can apply on workday but it just a time waste. We Can work 20hr/week.
  • Here we have many on campus job like in Library or in any research lab. For job you can apply on work day but I will not recommend to apply as I never get any reply or interview call despite having good qualifications. We have to go and ask each department or directly visit any on campus cafe for Student worker positions. And for RA and TA you need connections.

Placement

2

  • As the market is bad, people are having difficulty getting jobs, but the university alumni had gotten jobs before completing the degree, as well as they find it easy to get internships.
  • Due to current market, the salary range is down and we can expect min 70K/year
  • Universities arrange career fairs, and you have to apply on company sites or in LinkedIn, Indeed or other job portals.

Accommodation

Off Campus
6

  • I found my accommodation through online platforms and student groups (Indian Student Organization is one of the WhatsApp group for the UNR students) on Telegram. These groups were quite helpful in connecting with other students looking for roommates or available listings.
There are many apartment near university like you will find as near as 5 min walk from university in 400-700 per month.

Exams

  • Exams are required for admission in university/college : IELTS, TOEFL, GMAT, GRE
  • Documents are necessary to complete the admission process: Statement of Purpose, LOR, Resume, CV
  • There is no interview for this application process for my program (Information System) but for other few program for which you have to give interview and based on the interview and the past project, work experience and research paper you will get your decision.

Fees

  • For Masters 1 Semester fee is in between $12k-$15K for 9 credits (3 credits for each subject), 7K-8K for 6 credits (2 Subjects), Overall you have to complete 30 Credits i.e. 10 Subjects and If you are completing the degree then your fee for the course is around $45K-$50K it can vary if you extend your semester or take additions courses.
  • Monthly Expenses is around 700-1000 including Rent and Food.

Scholarship

  • Its very rare to get scholarship's as the University has no funding, But if you got any research assistantship or Teaching Assistantship then your fees will reduce as per hours, Like if you got 10 Hr GA or TA you have to pay around 5K for the semester, if you got 15 HR GA or TA you have to pay 2-4K and if you got 20 HR GA or TA you just have to pay 1.5K-2K
