Required Exams for Admission

IELTS (7)

The first year was a great experience. Each semester included 3 studios (design, drawing and spatial dynamics), art history and liberal arts. It allowed me to explore all the possible options provided at RISD as well as come out as a much more multidisciplinary person before even going into my chosen major. The foundation year, however, is very stressful because of the high work load. The college is extremely helpful in terms of resources for mental health, which helped me get through the year.

Course Curriculum

8

The first year of RISD is foundation which lets you explore many majors and teaches the basics of art and design. It let me interact and learn from students that are in different fine arts and design majors.

Faculty

8

Compared to the other majors in RISD industrial design has the most students. Anyhow the teachers are very approachable and the studio classes are allow more one to one interactions. There are usually 9-11 students per studio class.

Campus Life

There are many clubs in RISD about many things such as sports, art, inclusivity, cultural clubs, etc. RISD students can also join almost all of the brown clubs which allows interactions with people outside school.

Placement

7

Students get placed into great positions after college due to the high reputation of RISD. Considering the fact that the jobs are related to fine arts or design the salary is not very high.

Accommodation

Off Campus
9

RISD has an open campus. My sophomore room is sharing but you can get a single or a triple as well on campus. It is around $8000 just for the accommodation and with the meal plan it comes to around $14000.

Exams

My scores: IELTS final score 7- writing 7, reading- 6.5, listening- 7.5, speaking- 7; Art portfolio. Yes, have to submit all. In LOR my teachers wrote about my discipline and dedication towards the school. In my SOP I mainly wrote that I am interested in the Industrial design to design products for people with special needs. CV mentioned the previous experiences I’ve had in terms of school clubs and external events. There were no interviews but RISD gives an assignment every year which we have to do.

Fees

The tuition fees are $35000 per semester but the art supplies can be very expensive.

Scholarship

The college doesn’t give scholarships to international students.
