I chose University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign because it has a very good computer science program and a lot of resources. The professors are very impressive and a lot of research is done at the school.

Course Curriculum

I enjoyed the course curriculum and academics. However, it was often difficult to get help and professors are very slow at grading. I enjoyed being able to use a message board system though to ask my TAs questions about the class.

Exams

My scores: ACT 35/36; old SAT 2280/2400; new SAT 1550/1600; PSAT 1520/1520; SAT subject test - Mathematics 2 790/800; SAT subject test - Physics 800/800

Placement

I did not do research at this university. There are career fairs during the year to which students can go and talk to recruiters to get interviews for internships and or full time jobs. This is very helpful because you are able to meet with reviewers face to face and set up an interview for later that week.

Events

Campus life is fun, there are a lot of clubs and groups to become involved in. The computer science and engineering campus is very nice and boasts a lot of modern technology. However, freshmen are required to stay in dorms and most of them haven't been updated since 1980.

Faculty

The faculty to student ratio isn't that great because the program is getting really big. Some professors are very nice and helpful but for others it is clear that their first priority is research and they are not the best at teaching.

Hostel

The dorms are somewhat expensive because you have to pay for housing and a meal plan as well. The housing is expensive for what you get, which is old dorms and old furniture unless you're lucky enough to get into one of the few new dorms, which are like staying at a hotel in comparison.
